    About :

When making a new project, what a crafter needs to have is a clear vision of what they want to accomplish. It would help if they would come up with a plan, a timeline perhaps, and a step by step procedure would be very helpful to make sure the details are beautifully executed.

I saw a fellow crocheter on Facebook post a sun hat some weeks ago. It's not summer here in the country and even if it is, there's an extremely low chance of our family ever going out on an out of town trip anytime soon. Still, that's no reason to not give in to the urge of making a sun hat of my own version. And so my daughter's sun hat is one of my WIPs right now.

It's pretty basic, the first thing I did was to make a crochet circle big enough to fit her head. The lesson I learned about making the perfect crochet circle is very useful. Since it's a hat and the top center needs to be fully closed, I made use of the magic ring which I learned last year when I made my round bohemian bag.

As I was working the sides of the hat, I realized it would be a bit too boring if it would just be composed of single crochets all the way to the flaps. I decided to add a little bit of a simple design.

I tried making a double crochet, skip, double crochet kind of design so it would have holes in one row. But the outcome was still a bit too boring for me. Of course, I did the most sensible thing to do. Put down the project. Let it sit for a couple of days when you've finally come up with a design idea, and then get back to it, frog it a little bit to adjust it to the design you want to make.

    Criss Cross

Not really, I still did not have any idea what to do. With the lack of ideas, I decided to make a variation to my usual double crochet. What if I criss cross the stitches? If it doesn't work out, then I could just frog it again, and just get on with the boring single crochets til the end.

It's very simple actually, for the first time ever, I did not need any youtube guides or what not. I'm not even sure what it's called so I did not bother searching. Afterall, it's just as simple as going bonkers while you are crocheting.

I got excited, I wanted to capture the moment hence, the video. This is the first time I invented my own stitch. I know it's not really my own and I think other crocheters might have already done this stitch before. But hey, I discovered this one by myself! Haha! So I'm gonna call this Criss Cross double crochet. Not that there's any other way to describe it, eh?

I enjoyed taking a video and taking pictures of this one. I hope to finish this before summer next year. For a sloth crocheter like me, that should be a lot of time. LOL.
