Después de la interrupción de la semana pasada, retomo la exploración de la obra de Yann Tiersen. En esta entrega haré sonar con mis dedos "Childhood II", te contaré lo que me ha hecho sentir esta Nouvelle chanson y haré un breve análisis musical de la obra.

Childhood II, grabada en el año 2002, fue concebida como música para cine. Esta obra forma parte de la banda sonora de "Goodbye Lenin!", una comedia dramática dirigida por Wolfgang Becker que se desarrolla en el contexto de la caída del muro de Berlín (1989).

Tocar esta obra me conecta con mi niño interior. El motivo melódico que Yann Tiersen emplea en "Childhood II" realmente se relaciona con el nombre de la obra. Tanto la rítmica sencilla como los intervalos usados (2da y 3era), son los que comúnmente se emplean para componer canciones infantiles, ya que los chicos los entonan con mayor facilidad. Esto, sumado a la repetición de las partes y la simplicidad armónica, transmite un claro sentimiento de ternura y nostalgia que con facilidad nos retrotrae hasta la infancia.

Mi breve análisis musical. Esta obra tiene su centro tonal en Sol menor, al final de la progresión cíclica de acordes, Yann Tiersen emplea la función armónica menor del 5to grado (Dm) en su segunda inversión. Este tratamiento armónico sugiere que la obra fue compuesta en la tonalidad de Sol menor natural (modo eólico). Emplea una cifra indicadora de 4/4 y parece estar constituida, a pesar de emplear siempre el mismo ciclo armónico, de tres partes (ABA), distinguiéndose A de B por el empleo de material melódico-rítmico distinto.

Me siento muy contento de haber podido continuar con la exploración de la obra del maestro Tiersen. Espero que este pequeño esfuerzo interpretativo te haya gustado. After last week's interruption, I return to exploring the work of Yann Tiersen. In this installment I will play with my fingers "Childhood II", I will tell you what this Nouvelle chanson has made me feel and I will do a brief musical analysis of the work.

Childhood II, recorded in 2002, was conceived as music for film. This work is part of the soundtrack of "Goodbye Lenin!", a dramatic comedy directed by Wolfgang Becker that takes place in the context of the fall of the Berlin Wall (1989).

Playing this work connects me with my inner child. The melodic motif that Yann Tiersen employs in "Childhood II" actually relates to the name of the work. Both the simple rhythm and the intervals used (2nd and 3rd) are those commonly used to compose children's songs, since children sing them more easily. This, added to the repetition of the parts and the harmonic simplicity, transmits a clear feeling of tenderness and nostalgia that easily takes us back to childhood.

My brief musical analysis. This work has its tonal center in G minor, at the end of the cyclical chord progression, Yann Tiersen uses the minor harmonic function of the 5th degree (Dm) in its second inversion. This harmonic treatment suggests that the work was composed in the key of G natural minor (Aeolian mode). It uses an indicator figure of 4/4 and seems to be constituted, despite always using the same harmonic cycle, of three parts (ABA), distinguishing A from B by the use of different melodic-rhythmic material.
