Welcome to week two of the Vibes web 3 competition! I'm so thrilled to be back again this week after the great success of week one. As @lordbutterfly noted, there was awesome engagement and stunning talent on display. As more gifted musicians converge on Hive, I envision powerful connections through our shared, universal language - music.
Last week I brought Beyonce's smash hit "Halo" to the competition. Its theme of a lover being an angel and saving light aligned perfectly with the "angelic" brief. This week, however, I wanted to change both genre and message. I've selected the rousing gospel anthem, "Who You Say I Am" by Hillsong Worship. This contemporary Christian song is an anthem of identity, worth and belonging rooted not in fickle human labels but in God's steadfast love.
The central question pulses through - "Who am I?" It's a universal cry from insecure hearts. We wonder if the names, lies or doubts others say about us tell our real story. This song meets us in that hurt but redirects to truth: our identity rests in who GOD says we are - valued, known, enough. During difficult times, I cling to the chorus, "I am who You say I am." It aligns my view with the Father's view. He says I'm chosen, loved and have purpose. What freedom to shed false identities and rest in being His!
I longed to cover this stirring song because it ministers to my personal pain points but also, hopefully, speaks life and value into every listening heart. I sang over an instrumental-only track from Tubidy.mobi. I added backup vocals along with the lead vocals which I had recorded. Blending those elements together challenged me but I'm happy with my version. I hope this end result touches souls needing renewed confidence in their worth today!
I'd love to hear your feedback in the comments below! Now, let's enjoy week two!
