Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Music Community! My name is @jasperdick and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town, South Africa!

This is Week 2 of the “Retro Music” challenge! The aim of the game is to play a cover of anything from the 1920s to the 1990s, anything that would be considered a bit “Retro” in this day and age, which opens up a world of possibilities!

I had some music loving parents and grew up with a big music collection from the 1960’s to 1980’s. I then had a music loving big sister who got me into 1990’s music as I became a teenager myself… but for some reason, the “Retro Music” challenge makes me want to dig into songs that are even older than all this…

Back in the days when I used to visit my grandparents and play for them, I would try and think of songs that they might enjoy… The classic “Where Have all the Flowers Gone”, written by Pete Seeger in 1955 was one of them!

According to the Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where_Have_All_the_Flowers_Gone%3F), Pete Seeger wrote the first three verses inspired by a traditional Cossack (Ukrainian) folk-song, and then in 1960 a person called Joe Hickerson added the last verses to make it into a circular song (such that we end with the flowers that we started with)… which is one of the reasons I like the song as much as I do!

It is a protest song against war, and is one of the best of those!

¡Hola a todos en Hive y especialmente a la comunidad musical de Hive! ¡Mi nombre es @jasperdick y les escribo (y canto) desde Ciudad del Cabo, Sudáfrica!

¡Esta es la semana 2 del desafío "Música retro"! El objetivo del juego es jugar una versión de cualquier cosa, desde la década de 1920 hasta la década de 1990, cualquier cosa que se considere un poco "retro" en esta época, ¡lo que abre un mundo de posibilidades!

Tuve algunos padres amantes de la música y crecí con una gran colección de música de la década de 1960 a 1980. Luego tuve una hermana mayor amante de la música que me metió en la música de la década de 1990 cuando yo mismo me convertí en un adolescente... pero por alguna razón, el desafío "Retro Music" me hace querer profundizar en canciones que son aún más antiguas que todo esto...

En los días en que solía visitar a mis abuelos y tocar para ellos, intentaba pensar en canciones que pudieran disfrutar... ¡El clásico "Where Have all the Flowers Gone", escrito por Pete Seeger en 1955, era una de ellas!

Según la página de Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where_Have_All_the_Flowers_Gone%3F), Pete Seeger escribió los primeros tres versos inspirado en una canción popular tradicional cosaca (ucraniana), y luego, en 1960, una persona llamada Joe Hickerson agregó los últimos versos para convertirla en una canción circular (de modo que terminamos con las flores con las que comenzamos)... ¡que es una de las razones por las que me gusta la canción tanto como a mí!
