HIVE OPEN MIC #189 (ENG/ESP): My Perception - "Freedom, Don't Give it Away" by jasperdick (original)

Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you Cape Town in South Africa!

Welcome to Week 189 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge. The theme for this week is “My Perception”! For me, this theme suggests to me songs where the artist gives their perception or opinion on some political matter…

For those of you who don’t know, I’ve decided to alter my Three Tune Tuesday posts to be based around the Hive Open Mic theme of the week, and how I would go about tackling it. If you are wanting to take part this week, but need some help interpreting what kind of songs would suit the theme, please go check out my post here:

In that post, I suggested some cover songs that would suit the theme well, and you’re welcome to borrow any of the ideas if you still want to take part in the Hive Open Mic this week!

The obvious ideas I came up with are:

• “Working Class Hero” by John Lennon
• “Born in the USA” by Bruce Springsteen
• “Rich Men North of Richmond” by Oliver Anthony

But… what I really want to do is show you my brand-new original song “Freedom, Don’t Give it Away”. This is a song I hurriedly wrote a draft of in order to be able to submit something in time for the first Phase of the @musiczone Community’s Song Challenge where you need to present a brand-new original song that you’ve never presented in public or online before. (By the way, Phase 2 is still under way with Phase 3 to follow – if you have a new original song to present, get recording!)

Since then, I added to the verses and refined them a bit so that they flow a bit more. The message of the song is still the same.

As I wrote before: “It (My new chord pattern) seems to be turning into a song about how our freedom of speech is at risk. In my opinion this is leading to a world of "us" and "them"...
If we can have tough, but open and civil, conversations with people who think differently from us, we may learn something new about each other's perspectives and maybe even meet in the middle.

If we can't, that person is just going to makes friends who are even more radical... We land up just calling each other communists and Nazis and getting violent, because we didn't even give diplomacy a chance.

So, we need freedom of speech, and with it comes the responsibility to listen with care...”

And that is honestly “My Perception”, which is why I think my new song is a good fit this week!

Bienvenido a la Semana 189 del Hive Open Mic Challenge. ¡El tema de esta semana es “Mi percepción”! Para mí este tema me sugiere canciones donde el artista da su percepción u opinión sobre algún tema político…

En esa publicación, sugerí algunos covers que se adaptarían bien al tema, ¡y puedes tomar prestadas cualquiera de las ideas si aún quieres participar en Hive Open Mic esta semana!

Las ideas obvias que se me ocurrieron son:

• “Héroe de la clase trabajadora” de John Lennon
• “Nacido en Estados Unidos” de Bruce Springsteen
• “Hombres ricos al norte de Richmond” de Oliver Anthony

Pero… lo que realmente quiero hacer es mostrarles mi nueva canción original “Freedom, Don’t Give it Away”. Esta es una canción de la que escribí apresuradamente un borrador para poder enviar algo a tiempo para la primera fase del desafío de canciones de la comunidad @musiczone, donde debes presentar una canción original nueva que nunca has presentado en público. o en línea antes. Desde entonces, agregué versos y los refiné un poco para que fluyeran un poco más. El mensaje de la canción sigue siendo el mismo.

Como escribí antes: “(Mi nuevo patrón de acordes) parece estar convirtiéndose en una canción sobre cómo nuestra libertad de expresión está en riesgo. En mi opinión, esto está conduciendo a un mundo de "nosotros" y "ellos

Si podemos tener conversaciones duras, pero abiertas y civilizadas, con personas que piensan diferente a nosotros, podemos aprender algo nuevo sobre las perspectivas de los demás y tal vez incluso encontrarnos en el medio.

Si no podemos, esa persona simplemente hará amigos que serán aún más radicales... Terminaremos llamándonos comunistas y nazis y volviéndonos violentos, porque ni siquiera le dimos una oportunidad a la diplomacia.

Por lo tanto, necesitamos libertad de expresión, y con ella viene la responsabilidad de escuchar con atención...”

Y esa es, honestamente, “My Perception”, ¡por eso creo que mi nueva canción encaja bien esta semana!
