HIVE OPEN MIC #187 (ENG/ESP): A Peaceful Song - "For Emily..." by Simon & Garfunkel

Welcome to Week 187 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge. The theme for this week is “A Peaceful Song”!

For those of you who don’t know, I’ve decided to alter my Three Tune Tuesday posts to be based around the Hive Open Mic theme of the week, and how I would go about tackling it. If you are wanting to take part this week, but need some help interpreting what kind of songs would suit the theme, please go check out my post here:

In that post, I suggested some cover songs that would suit the theme well, and you’re welcome to borrow any of the ideas if you still want to take part in the Hive Open Mic this week!

But to be honest, the theme of “A Peaceful Song” is wide open. The world is our oyster to choose any of the wonderful softer, more poetic, finger-picking kind of songs out there in the world, so I don’t imagine anybody will need help coming up with ideas this week!

One of my favourite softer, poetic, peaceful, finger-picking songs is “For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her”, and especially the live performance of it that I will be posting in the video below. Art Garfunkel’s haunting angelic high voice mixed with masterful, yet seemingly spontaneous, 12-string guitar playing creates a kind of magic on stage. At the end of the performance, you can see the two artists look at each other with a “what just happened?” kind of look on their faces! I think this is the version that appears on their “Best of” album (it’s certainly one of the live versions), and so I assume the magic was impossible to recreate in a sterile studio?

Pero para ser honesto, el tema de “A Peaceful Song” está muy abierto. El mundo está en nuestras manos para elegir cualquiera de las maravillosas canciones más suaves, más poéticas y que se pueden tocar con los dedos que existen en el mundo, ¡así que no imagino que nadie necesitará ayuda para pensar en ideas esta semana!

Una de mis canciones favoritas, más suaves, poéticas, pacíficas y para tocarse los dedos, es “For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her”, y especialmente su presentación en vivo que publicaré en el video a continuación. La inquietante voz angelical de Art Garfunkel mezclada con una guitarra de 12 cuerdas magistral, pero aparentemente espontánea, crea una especie de magia en el escenario. Al final de la actuación, se puede ver a los dos artistas mirarse con un “¿qué acaba de pasar?” ¡Qué expresión en sus caras! Creo que esta es la versión que aparece en su álbum “Best of” (ciertamente es una de las versiones en vivo), así que supongo que la magia fue imposible de recrear en un estudio estéril.
