PREPARING MELON SOUP, ONE OF THE NIGERIAN NATIVE SOUPS

    I welcome you all to another edition of Creative Sunday, I wish us a prosperous week and a merry Christmas in advance.

    Today I will be preparing melon soup which we call egusi soup in our native language, melon soup is one of our traditional soups in Nigeria, and this soup is common among the Yoruba tribe.

    There are two methods for preparing this soup, we can use a direct method or the frying method, I will be using the frying method for this soup.

    LISTS OF MY INGREDIENTS

    Blended melon
    Pepper
    Dried fish
    Ugwu leaves
    Fresh fish
    Red oil
    Crayfish
    Seasoning cubes
    Salt
    Onions

    STEPS IN PREPARING THIS SOUP

    Firstly, I will wash all the ingredients I will be using and also wash my hands properly to avoid germs and other micro bacteria

    STEP 1
    Mix your melon with a little water to form a paste, it will not be too thick and it will not be watery, it must be moderate then add a pinch of salt to it, well I do this to make the melon tasty while frying it, I love this process very well.

    STEP 2
    Blend your pepper with crayfish and set it aside, prepare all your ingredients so that the cooking will not take much time, and cut your vegetables and set them aside too.

    STEP 3
    Place your cooking pt on your gas, add your red oil, and let it be on medium heat, after a minute add the paste melon bit by bit and let it fry for a minute before turning it to the other side, I love this method so much, it will make your melon form balls and look perfect.

    STEP 4
    Add a little water to the melon after a minute of frying and cover for another minute, then add the blended pepper with your seasoning cubes and salt, mix, and cover to cook. Always leave your soup to cook very well at this point so that it will not disturb your tummy, uncooked melon soup can affect you by visiting the toilet at intervals.

    STEP 5
    Introduce the washed fresh fish into the soup, cover it again, and let it cook with the soup so that all the ingredients can be incorporated into the fish the fish will also release its juice inside the soup, I love to use fresh fish for the soup because fish always add another aroma to the particular soup. After two minutes add the dried fish into it as well then mix gently so that the fresh will not scatter into the soup, some people will prefer to bring out the fresh fish before mixing but I can also mix it without bringing the fish out.

    STEP 6
    Add your vegetables into the soup and cover the pt before mixing, cover for a minute and let the heat from the soup mix with the vegetables, then open it and mix, then your soup is ready to serve, we can pair this soup with any swallow of your choice.
