we as a student moshood Abiola Polytechnic did a practical documentary of a remote community called agejo

over the years, this community has suffered a lot of challenges due to governmental injustice and environmental inequality.

we spoke to different members of the community using the language they understood.

As a student aspiring to be a journalist someday, i feel the need to get the voice of this voiceless community broadcasted, so that they can get the help they deserve.

Some informations we gathered from the management of moshood Abiola Polytechnic PRO YEMI AJIBOLA

He said the Polytechnic formerly known as Ogun State Polytechnic started in 1979 in onlikolobo where we have the bishop scout, as at then the non science department such as mass communication and other management courses( bus admin and marketing) and the science courses at oke gbeya. Mapoly was operating from tow campuses. around 1985 the Polytechnic decided to move forward to ojere, the first rector was Tunji sonuola is from one of the villages behind the health centre, there are about 2 to 3 villages which there land was acquired by the state government for the Polytechnic. The land covers 996 hectares, along adigbe to obada oko, the beginning of the bridge that is where the land terminates. Along alagada, where we have the Bridge constructed by the railway that is were the land terminates and it goes like that it is Ogun river that is the boundary.

The construction in front of the gate are illegal construction, the lands belongs to the Polytechnic. The building at the sch fence adjacent the school market close to sap route entrance, those buildings are hotels constructed by gbenga Daniel. Behind those buildings some people have said building houses which means they encroached on the land of the Polytechnic, those buildings has been fenced by the Polytechnic which automatically means those individuals have lost their houses.

For the agejo people, the unfortunate thing is for the Polytechnic to have allowed them to remain in their villages, probably because the Polytechnic thought since they are not constructing buildings in those places for now, why not allow the villagers to continue to occupy those lands.

The management believes that but the Polytechnic and the villagers can coexist. When the government acquired the lands (the 996 hectares) compensation was paid to their parents, he quoted that there are documents to support his claims. They have been going to before the incident of December 12 2013. The ministry came with the list of competitions paid to the families, to prove that they were duely compensated but because they allow them to stay their, now their children felt they could make money out of those lands. The Polytechnic has a farm land close to the community but due to some fetish things done on those lands, one of the security of the Polytechnic died on the land. The land the agejo people believe they are occupying, they are occupying it illegally, so if the Polytechnic decides to chase them away from that land, there is nothing they can do.

They were not suppose to build permanent structure on that place except for those buildings that has been there before the arrangement, they have no claim to the land.

Orisun community media is a brand name created by student of 30, it serrves as an umbrella that binds us to towards achieving our common goal.
