Hablemos de La Zampoña: características del instrumento, mi experiencia y consejos para comenzar

Hola mi gente linda de la comunidad de MUSIC, en esta ocasión les traigo un instrumento característico de la música andina, conocido como ZAMPOÑA. Desde niño en la ciudad de Punto Fijo edo. Falcón, pude apreciar las primeras ejecuciones de este instrumento, que hacían acompañar con melodías muy bonitas, entre ellas el Condor Pasa, Imagine, incluso recuerdo que hasta les compré un disco. Creo que estos instrumentistas venían del Perú. Y que cosas tiene la vida, ahora me encuentro en esto lindo país, y desde hace un tiempo decidí darme la oportunidad de explorar su cultura musical comenzando con este instrumento:

Hello my beautiful people of the MUSIC community, this time I bring you a characteristic instrument of Andean music, known as ZAMPOÑA. Since I was a child in the city of Punto Fijo edo. Falcon, I could appreciate the first performances of this instrument, which accompanied with very nice melodies, including the Condor Pasa, Imagine, I even remember that I even bought a disc. I believe that these instrumentalists came from Peru. And what a thing life has, now I find myself in this beautiful country, and some time ago I decided to give myself the opportunity to explore its musical culture starting with this instrument:

La ZAMPOÑA que tengo es el modelo más común que se puede encontrar en las tiendas de música acá en Perú, y su afinación es en Sol Mayor, es decir, dos de los tubos de esta zampoña nos dan Fa#, destacando que tiene un total de 13 tubos. Dado que tiene esta única nota alterada, con suerte puedo interpretar algunas canciones en Do Mayor que no lleven esa nota, como por ejemplo el tema IMAGINE de John Lenon. Otro tema que me fascina tocar es el CONDOR PASA de Daniel Alomia Robles, tema emblemático de la música Andina.

¿Cómo iniciar en la Zampoña?

Como todo instrumento de viento una de las cosas más importantes de fortalecer es la respiración. Si tienes una zampoña en tu casa y quieres tocarla, te aconsejo que primero centres tú atención en desarrollar una buena técnica para administrar de la mejor manera el aire que suministras en cada tubo, lo cual va acompañado de hacer las respiraciones oportunas en los momentos claves de la melodía. Por eso te invito a que veas el recurso audiovisual, donde comparto una serie de ejercicios que me enseñó un artista de la calle pero con una maestría de enseñanza invaluable, este maestro se hacía llamar “El Chinito de la Zampoña” . A continuación, una captura donde se muestran los tubos de la zampoña, esos que debemos llenar con nuestro aire de la mejor forma:

The ZAMPOÑA that I have is the most common model that can be found in music stores here in Peru, and its tuning is in G Major, that is, two of the tubes of this zampoña give us F#, highlighting that it has a total of 13 tubes. Since it has this single altered note, hopefully I can play some songs in C major that do not carry that note, such as the song IMAGINE by John Lenon. Another song I love to play is CONDOR PASA by Daniel Alomia Robles, an emblematic song of Andean music.

How to start playing the Zampoña?

Like any wind instrument, one of the most important things to strengthen is breathing. If you have a panpipes at home and you want to play it, I advise you to first focus your attention on developing a good technique to manage the air you supply in each tube in the best way, which is accompanied by making the appropriate breaths at key moments of the melody. So I invite you to see the audiovisual resource, where I share a series of exercises that I was taught by a street artist but with a mastery of invaluable teaching, this teacher was called "El Chinito de la Zampoña". Los ejercicios de buenas a primera no los pude dominar, pasaron muchos meses hasta que por fin salieron. En el camino tenía dudas sobre las notas graves del instrumento. En otra interacción con el “Chinito de la Zampoña” entendí la clave para lograr estas notas, lo que demuestra la importancia de un guía cuando nos adentramos de forma autodidacta a estudiar un instrumento:

The exercises from good to first could not be mastered, it took me many months before they finally came out. Along the way I had doubts about the low notes of the instrument. In another interaction with the "Chinito de la Zampoña" I understood the key to achieve these notes, which demonstrates the importance of a guide when we go into a self-taught way to study an instrument:

Y la clave era literalmente imaginarse que se está llenando con nuestro aire un tubo. En el video del comienzo podrás apreciar con mejor detalle esta explicación.
