Welcome back to my blog, guys! Today I bring you my new participation in the VIBES contest, created and organized by @lordbutterfly in its week number 8; for more information about this week and how to participate, you can go read the next post.

This week there is an interesting challenge and we have to perform songs from the 60's, so this time I had to go out of my comfort zone and I decided to participate with a song that I like too much from one of my favorite artists of all my life: Ray Charles.

Esta semana hay un reto interesante y es que tenemos que interpretar canciones de los años 60, por lo que esta vez tuve que salir de mi zona de confort y decidí participar con una canción que me gusta demasiado de uno de mis artistas favoritos de toda la vida: Ray Charles.

The Artist

Ray Charles was a very consecrated and prolific artist, one of the greatest exponents, if not pioneers of the soul genre within the mythical variety of music that existed in the world of "black music" such as Jazz, Blues, R&B (Rhythm & Blues), etc.

His music was labeled as pagan music for using elements of gospel, a genre that was mostly used in religious music, to talk about topics that were not religious at all and used for places that would come to be classified as clandestine by the segregation and racism of the time.

For the decade of the 60's, Ray Charles was a legend that today is more relevant than ever and, as a tribute, I wanted to take this opportunity to perform one of his most iconic songs.

El Artista

Ray Charles fue un artista muy consagrado y prolífico, uno de los máximos exponentes, por no decir pioneros del género del soul dentro de la mítica variedad de música que existía en el mundo de la "música negra" como el Jazz, Blues, el R&B (Rythm & Blues), etc.

Su música fue catalogada como música pagana por utilizar elementos del góspel, género que mayormente era utilizado en música religiosa, para hablar sobre temas que no eran para nada religiosos y utilizados para lugares que se llegarían a clasificar como clandestinos por la segregación y el racismo de la época.

Para la década de los 60's, Ray Charles fue una leyenda que hoy en día está más vigente que nunca y que, a manera de homenaje, quise aprovechar esta oportunidad para realizar un performance de uno de sus temas más icónicos.

The Song: Hit The Road Jack

I decided to use this song because it is one of the most moving, energetic and epic songs I know of this artist, besides the fact that the story of it is too curious, because, as the lyrics say, basically the backing singers represent a woman who is angry with her partner and tells him to go to the street because she doesn't want to have anything with him anymore.

In fact, in the Ray Charles biopic, starring Jamie Foxx, there is a scene that explains how this song was born and I find it quite interesting, I'll leave it here:

La Canción: Hit The Road Jack

Decidí utilizar esta canción porque es una de las más movidas, enérgicas y épicas que conozco de este artista, además del hecho de que la historia de la misma es demasiado curiosa, porque, así como lo dice la letra, básicamente las coristas representan a una mujer que está enojada con su pareja y le dice que se vaya para la calle porque ya no quiere tener nada con él.

De hecho, en la película biográfica de Ray Charles, protagonizada por Jamie Foxx, justo hay una escena que explica cómo nació esa canción y me parece algo bastante interesante, se las dejaré por aquí:
