After so many attempts I can finally enter the beautiful fortress "Castelo dos moros" or in English "castle of the Moors", to visit it I had to wait two years since it was being remodeled and of course I couldn't miss this exclusive in one of my favorite communities! According to historical records, Portuguese archaeologists determined that this castle already existed since 1040, being one of the oldest that brought to the community, we are going to transport ourselves in history to the medieval era when the Portuguese commanded by the crusades of Sancho I conquered the castle to the Moors.🧭🌏

40km from Lisbon we find this piece of historical piece that is more than a thousand years old and is worth a visit for many reasons. Firstly, its entry is free, an excellent option for those who mark their vacations with low budgets, it has private parking, open on Mondays. on Sunday and to make the historical monument more interesting, inside there is a cafe that allows you to have breakfast under the walls, spending an incredible afternoon with the family! I forgot!!!! It has a picnic area, deserves five stars! Since I've been in Portugal I've never been able to get in, it was under renovation for a long time!🏰🍍🌏

I understand that all the civilizations that arrived in the Mediterranean lived in the area of Sesimbra and of course it makes sense as you can see in the photos, it is a coastal city, the Atlantic served for centuries to many inhabitants to subsist on the fishing resources preventing the inhabitants from Be nomads a common practice of the prehistoric era! Many artifacts have been found in these soils, from jugs to very old weapons, all exhibited in the Sesimbra museum! At the beginning of the 19th century the castle was already considered a Portuguese national monument!🍍🌏🤴

    Portuguese and Moors🙇‍♂️🚙/ Portugueses y Moros🌏🏰

Original door more than 500 years old🚩🙇‍♂️

It was a beautiful restoration that they did in the castle including the door that was in very poor condition and is believed to date back to 1500, however the best moments of the castle were between the centuries (1100-1300) later when the 13th century passed the castle It no longer had much importance because the enemy was on the border so the Portuguese would give more highlights to all the castles on the border with Spain.👀🧭

The main character that stands out in the history of Portugal is the conqueror Alfonso Henrique who practically expanded the territory of Portugal, which was always small in size, arriving in 1120. Henrique led an army of more than 2,000 soldiers to conquer the castle, which was much larger. simpler than the current one, he managed to annihilate the Moors in just one day, however history would not remain like this and in 1190 the Moors launched a great offensive recovering the castle that was now much more fortified and it took a century until it was recovered by Sancho I🏰🤴

Old underground silos🙇‍♂️🚙/ Antiguo silos subterraneos🌏🏰

This is my favorite part and seeing these excavations that are more than 500 years old is amazing. They are called "covas do pao" and it is literally the equivalent of a modern refrigerator, what was done was to store many kilos of cereals for the winter in addition to protecting it from Plagues are how people survived in the Mediterranean winter. In medieval times, it is still thought that the Moors used these techniques in many of their villages.🍍👨‍💻📚

It is a pity that in the 13th century the castle was sacked by the troops of Castile and at that point it lost interest for the Portuguese. However, in the era of discoveries due to the maritime contributions of Portugal, a new fortress, even improved, was created to cover the village of Sesimbra who little by little grew.🙇‍♂️🌏
