Hello there, my fellow musicians and music lovers!

You might be wondering what happened to the covers. Nothing has happened, but I'm currently onto some really tough pieces and it's been a process of accepting not being ready to record. Yes, it hurts the pride, but it will be ok once the video comes together in the best way possible. So, it's a game of patience. But I also enjoy throwing around some content about thoughts about music. This one is special since it contains some notions about poetry as a combination of music and language.

We could refer to poetry as that perfect fusion between music and language. Each language has its rhythm. And poetry is just that, exploiting all those elements that are hidden in the secret rhythm of languages. That's why well-crafted poems has such a rich cadence to the words. Not only that, they convey the same passages of music in the images portrayed by the words used.

Poetry evokes feelings, but not all poetry is about them. There muses for the types of poetry. Nowadays, we call this expression of feeling in poetic language lyrical poetry. That's the reason why we often call the words in a song lyrics. As you can see, both things are tuned into each other. When one talks about poetry, music and language are entwined in such a way you can't see the end or the beginning of any.

Last Friday, we celebrated 130 since the poet Jose Antonio Ramos Sucre was born in this city. I had the lucky chance of being on the selected readers for his works. Even had to read twice because someone in the public asked for a specific poem. But the majority of people there wasn't in the house to listen to us recite these poems which are filled with suffering and dark pictures of live. This is our cursed poet (very few cities can claim one of their own). His works are timeless. He also wrote in prose. And you might think prose poetry may lack rhythm, but you'd be mistaken. As in music, the rhythm in this particular type of poetry is marked by the use of silences. We know those as punctuation marks. The rest of the language also coveys a sense of atmosphere. There are stories embedded in the text. They have tons of references to classical culture, gothic themes, daily life and more.

You could say that's its own concert with acting. Maybe I'm going as far to say that the poem could be as the opera of your mind. Pretty nice idea.

    Let me coin that!

But people weren't in the house for the poets and readers. We had our Polyphonic Choir with a tribute to the life of the poet. And it was fitting some of their songs are Madrigals. This is a genre that very popular among choirs as it is usually a poem recited as a choir. And they are beautiful. Some poems have been adapted to fit this style.

What better way to understand what poetry than listening to poetry being recited. Language and music doing their thing as one solid unit. The public wasn't here for the poets. But not even the poets were here for that. We all wanted to listen to music. What better way to go about a Friday afternoon than having a private concert after reading some cursed poetry.

There might be some things, but you tell me after you listen to them.

I didn't record the whole concert as my arms are only human. But I did have the drive to go over the complete last song since it's one I like a lot. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did when I attended the concert. It almost made me want to go back to the choir life.

    Almost, but I know better.

Although I know the singing language is Spanish, it doesn't take too much to understand the beauty in the sound of any particular language. Sit back and enjoy these amazing polyphony.
