We are back on the Hive Music Festival for its 38th week, round 2. Today, I'm bringing back the same kind of song I played last week. But there's a catch, this time I brought my teacher or rather I went my things to the class ready to record this song in the traditional style of Contrapunteo. Similar to a counterpoint in a song it is a response in the melody made by another instrument.

In this case, we play both things harmony and melody, but take turns to articulate the phrases and go back to the strumming. It was quite a challenge and wasn't easy to make in one take. But after some bloopers and a lot of concentration we were able to put this together.

This is the second time I played with him, but the first I'm actually switching between harmony and melody. It's interesting to see how much one can grow in so little time. And having these kinds of goals help measure the gap between my skills in the past and now.

After recording this video, his wife proposed the idea that we should make a video with all the students. It would be an interesting project. Maybe that can be arranged in the future and I can bring some of it to Hive just to show the different levels and style the students of Alexander Mariña have.

Estamos de vuelta para la semana 38, ronda 2 del Hive Music Festival. Hoy, les traigo la misma canción de la semana pasada, pero en otro formato. El meollo del asunto es que estoy tocando con mi profesor. Lo invité a grabar o mejor dicho me fui con mis corotos a grabar a su casa en el estilo tradicional del Contrapunteo. Esto es como el contrapunto que se ve en las partituras: una respuesta a una melodía hecha por otro instrumento que no es el principal.

En este caso, ambos tocamos la melodía y el acompañamiento, pero tomamos turnos para articular las frases y volver al rasgueo. Fue un reto y nada fácil de lograr en una sola toma. Sin embargo, después de varios errores y chistes, logramos sacar esto.

Esta es la segunda vez que grabo con él, pero la primera en que estoy haciendo tanto melodía como armonía. Es muy interesante como se puede mejorar en tan poco tiempo. Tener estas metas tan simples como grabar un video así son una manera de medir cuánto se ha avanzado en algo.

Después de grabar, la esposa del profesor propuso que hiciéramos un video así, pero con todos los estudiantes. Sería un proyecto muy interesante. Es probable que se pueda lograr y podría ser algo interesante para traer por acá. Así podrían ver los estilos diferentes entre los estudiantes de Alexander Mariña.
