Ya ha pasado casi una semana desde que se celebró el Gran Premio de Australia de 2022. Previo a la carrera, habíamos realizado un análisis del circuito de Albert Park, en el cual vimos cuáles son sus principales características y diferencias con otros circuitos.

Los cambios o modificaciones realizados al trazado recientemente generaron bastante expectativa respecto a la carrera, por lo que se esperaba una mejora significativa en el espectáculo, las luchas en pista y adelantamientos en pista.

Sin embargo, estos cambios no surtieron el efecto deseado, ya que fue una carrera poco movida en donde vimos pocos sobrepasos y bastante dificultad para efectuarlos. Se generaron ciertas "filas" de autos con ciertas batallas interesantes, pero en general, la carrera dejó que desear en este materia.

Es por esto que, y para cerrar el capítulo de Australia, he decidido realizar un video en donde se muestran las posibles modificaciones que podrían hacerse al circuito de Albert Park para fomentar en mayor grado los adelantamientos, y especialmente, adaptar el circuito a los autos actuales.

Este último punto es muy importante, ya que en las últimas décadas el tamaño de los autos se ha ido incrementando, por lo que el ancho de pista y la forma de las curvas puede hacer que con los autos actuales se dificulte más el adelantamiento.

Otro punto importante es también que los nuevos autos Fórmula 1 de 2022 parecen ser más "toscos" para tomar las curvas lentas respecto a los de 2021. Son más pesados y con mayor apoyo aerodinámico debido al efecto suelo. Esto quizás se vio reflejado en la dinámica carrera que tuvimos en Bahréin, un circuito de curvas lentas y frenadas fuertes, a diferencia de Jeddah y Melbourne, circuitos distintos al de Sakhir.

En este video realizaremos un recorrido mediante imágenes satelitales al circuito de Melbourne, para ver qué podríamos modificar y/o agregar al circuito para cumplir los objetivos descritos: fomentar los adelantamientos y adaptar el trazado a los autos actuales.

It's been almost a week since the 2022 Australian Grand Prix took place. Prior to the race, we had made an analysis of the Albert Park circuit, in which we saw what are its main features and differences with other circuits.

The changes or modifications made to the track recently generated a lot of expectation regarding the race, so it was expected a significant improvement in the spectacle, fights and overtaking on track.

However, these changes did not have the desired effect, as the race was not very dynamic and we saw few overtakes and it was quite difficult to execute them. There were some "rows" of cars with some interesting battles, but in general, the race left a little to be desired in this matter.

That is why, and to close the chapter of Australia, I have decided to make a video showing the possible modifications that could be made to the Albert Park circuit to encourage more overtaking, and especially, adapting the circuit to the current cars.

This last point is very important, since in the last decades the size of the cars has been increasing, so the track width and the shape of the curves can make overtaking more difficult with the current cars.

Another important point is also that the new 2022 Formula 1 cars seem to be "rougher" for slow cornering compared to the 2021 cars. They are heavier and with more aerodynamic support due to the ground effect. This was perhaps reflected in the dynamic race we had in Bahrain, a circuit with slow corners and hard braking, unlike Jeddah and Melbourne, circuits different from Sakhir.

In this video we will take a tour through satellite images of the Melbourne circuit, to see what we could modify and/or add to the circuit to meet the objectives described: to encourage overtaking and adapt the layout to the current cars.
