les enseñare un poco la historia de como fue compuesta está canción.

The author of this song is: Jemes Milton black. James Milton Black was born on August 19, 1856 in South Hill, New York. He learned from an early age to sing and play the organ. Around 1881 he moved to Williamsport, Pennsylvania where he devoted himself to Christian service in the Methodist Episcopal Church. He taught music weekdays, led the song service, and was a Sunday school teacher and youth leader in his spare time. He also edited several hymnals. One day while passing through an alley in one of the poorest sections of Williamsport, he found a little girl about 14 years old, sitting in the doorway of a house that was practically in ruins. Apparently his father and mother were addicted to drink. James asked her if she would like to go to Sunday school, to which she replied "Yes, I would like to go, but...?" then he looked down at his torn clothes and shoes. James understood and the next day he brought her a new dress, shoes and a hat. With her clean clothes, the girl named Bessie began to attend all the meetings on Sundays. In one of the Sunday classes, when James was taking roll and everyone answered by saying a verse, calling Bessie got no answer, despite calling her more than once. Two things plagued James' mind that day. The questions echoed in her mind: “What if this girl never answers again? What if he dies? On leaving Sunday school he went to fetch the girl from her house, and found her very ill. She called a doctor and paid him to examine her. The disappointing medical report was pneumonia. When James got home, he sadly sat down at the piano in his house and composed the hymn When the Trumpet Sounds. Bessie passed away ten days later, but the hymn her illness inspired has lived on in the hearts of millions of Christians around the world.

James Milton Black nació el 19 de Agosto de 1856 en South Hill, New York. Aprendió desde pequeño a cantar y a tocar el órgano. Alrededor de 1881 se trasladó a Williamsport, Pennsylvania donde se dedicó al servicio cristiano en la Iglesia Metodista Episcopal. Enseñaba música entre semana, dirigía el servicio de canto y era maestro de escuela dominical y líder juvenil en su tiempo libre. También editó varios himnarios.

Un día mientras pasaba por un callejón de uno de los sectores más pobres de Williamsport, se encontró a una niña pequeña de unos 14 años de edad, sentada en la puerta de una casa que estaba prácticamente en ruinas. Al parecer su padre y su madre eran adictos a la bebida. James le preguntó si le gustaría ir a la escuela dominical, a lo cual ella repondió “Sí, me gustaría ir, pero…?” en ese momento bajó la mirada a su ropa y zapatos rotos. James entendió y al día siguiente le llevó un vestido nuevo, zapatos y un sombrero. Con sus ropas limpias, la niña llamada Bessie empezó a asistir a todas las reuniones los domingos.

En una de las clases dominicales, cuando James pasaba lista y todos contestaban diciendo un versículo, al llamar a Bessie no obtuvo respuesta, a pesar de llamarla por más de una ocasión. Dos cosas atormentaban la mente de James en ese día. En su mente resonaban las preguntas “¿Qué tal que esta niña nunca más responda? ¿Y si fallece?”

Al salir de la escuela dominical fue a buscar a la niña a su casa, y la encontró muy enferma. Llamó a un médico y le pagó para que la examinara. El desalentador dictamen médico fué neumonía. Cuando James llegó a casa, acongojado se sentó en el piano de su casa y compuso el himno Cuando Suene la Trompeta. Bessie falleció a los diez días, pero el himno que su enfermedad inspiró, ha vivido en los corazones de millones de cristianos en todo el mundo.
