Birthday lesson on giving

It's my 24th birthday today and I got exactly what I expected. I'd like to play ignorant and pretend like I had no expectations for today but that would be a total lie. I know what I put out so I always anticipate how the universe should react in response to me.

A couple of weeks ago, I gave a gift to someone and my friend sent me a message asking me why I did what I did and what I expected from that person. I understood why she asked that because it was a pretty odd thing for me to do. She had no idea that I had been doing odd things for a while now.

I explained to my friend that I didn't do it in expectation of anything from that person. Instead, I did it because of what matters to me - birthdays.

I care a lot about my birthday. And I love it when people go out of their way to give me stuff because I can only imagine the sacrifice they go through to make me happy even for a moment. It's never easy. So, I make the effort to sacrifice in the same way.

Nobody has so much that it makes it extremely easy for them to give. Everyone has needs. The fact that I give a gift doesn't mean I have no other use of that money, it just means I care about that person and I want to make them happy. I don't even care a lot about reciprocation because I know the universe never forgets.

So, I told my friend that I expected nothing from that person. If they reciprocated the kindness, I would appreciate it and if they didn't, someone else would still give to me, maybe even more than I gave to that person.

As the universe would have it, that person didn't reciprocate the kindness, and that's okay because life happens, however, I received kindness, presents and other amazing things from people I never expected to get stuff from.

So, the question is; will I keep giving even when I don't receive from the people I give to? The answer is; hell, yes. I like making people feel as good as I feel when I receive. I know not a lot of people have that privilege.

Today was an amazing day. I look forward to what my new year has to offer.
