27 Día Mundial del Teatro | 27th World Theater Day

Desde 1962, cada día como hoy, 27 de marzo, se celebra en los teatros del mundo un extraño ritual. Justo antes de empezar la representación teatral, un representante del grupo a presentarse, en muchos casos el director, sale a escena antes de abrir el telón, saluda al público presente y lee un mensaje en celebración del Día Mundial del Teatro, escrito por una personalidad seleccionada previamente por el Instituto Internacional de Teatro, organización adscrita a la UNESCO. Solo después de esa lectura, se da comienzo a la función.

Es este un acto que se realiza en los grandes teatros, al igual que en los pequeños y el texto se traduce a más de 50 diferentes idiomas para ser leído en innumerables países, publicados en la prensa escrita y compartido en infinidad de programas de radio, televisión y, por supuesto, también a través de internet en páginas web y redes sociales.

El ITI (Instituo Internacional de Teatro por sus siglas en inglés) selecciona rigurosamente a la persona que va a escribir el mensaje de cada año y por esa misma razón siempre son intelectuales de gran prestigio y de una labor indiscutible que se relaciona con el arte teatral.

Entre las personalidades que han tenido ese honor se encuentran el escritor y dramatugo estadounidense Arthur Miller, el británico ganador del Oscar, actor de cine, televisión y teatro Laurence Olivier, una de las más destacads actrices alemanas del siglo XX, quien además era esa de Bertold Brecht, Helene Weigel, el compositor y pianista soviético Dmitri Shostakóvich, el premio Nóbel de liteartura, el chileno Pablo Neruda y muchos más que puedes ver en la lista completa.

Lamentablemente, el año pasado y este, el ritual ha estado incompleto, pues por la pandemia los teatros han permanecido cerrados. Sin embargo, la fiesta del teatro no se ha detenido. Al igual que en todos los campos, el teatro también ha estado reinventándose y creando su variante a través del gran red mundial, la WWW. Y los mensajes de ambos años ha sido distribuido y dado a conocer por nuevos medios.

Este año la responsabilidad de escribir el mensaje recayó en manos de la actriz inglesa Helen Mirrel, ganadora del Oscar como Mejor Actriz en 2007, por su papel en la película The Queen. Es decir el 27 de marzo de cada año es una fiesta para el teatro y cada autor de los mensajes le ha imprimido un carácter a su mensaje, que tiene que ver con la visión del mundo de cada uno de ellos y con la realidad que se vive a nivel mundial.

En 1995, el honor de escribir el mensaje le correspondió a mi papá, Humberto Orsini, quien ya había desarrollado una increíble labor teatral a nivel mundial, en distintos organismos internacionales y como docente, dramaturgo y director de teatro en Venezuela.

Su mensaje iba acorde a su creencia de que la función del teatro debía ser social y el mensaje hoy en día, a excepción del problema con el COVID-19, tiene el mismo valor y la misma vigencia que hace 17 años.

Mi homenaje para todas las personas que dedican su vida al teatro, mi pequeño aporte a esta celebración y un tributo tanto a mi padre, como a mi madre, como actriz y como la mujer que siempre lo acompañó en todos los terrenos, es traer hoy una vez más ese texto, en versión narrada por mí.

Since 1962, every day like today, March 27th, a strange ritual is celebrated in theaters around the world. Just before the theatrical performance begins, a representative of the group to be presented, in many cases the director, comes on stage before the curtain opens, greets the audience and reads a message in celebration of World Theater Day, written by a personality previously selected by the International Theater Institute, an organization attached to UNESCO. Only after this reading, the performance begins.

This is an act that is performed in large theaters, as well as in small ones, and the text is translated into more than 50 different languages to be read in countless countries, published in the written press and shared in countless radio and television programs and, of course, also through the Internet on websites and social networks.

The ITI (International Theatre Institute) rigorously selects the person who will write the message of each year and for that reason they are always intellectuals of great prestige and of an indisputable work related to the theatrical art.

Among the personalities who have had this honor are the American writer and playwright Arthur Miller, the British Oscar-winning film, television and theater actor Laurence Olivier, one of the most outstanding German actresses of the twentieth century, who was also that of Bertold Brecht, [Helene Weigel](https://en. wikipedia.org/wiki/Helene_Weigel), the Soviet composer and pianist Dmitri Shostakovich, the Nobel laureate in literature, the Chilean Pablo Neruda and many more that you can see in the complete list.

Unfortunately, last year and this year, the ritual has been incomplete, because due to the pandemic the theaters have remained closed. However, the theater party has not stopped. As in all fields, the theater has also been reinventing itself and creating its variant through the great world wide web, the WWW. And the messages of both years have been distributed and made known through new media.

This year the responsibility of writing the message fell to the English actress Helen Mirrel, winner of the Oscar for Best Actress in 2007, for her role in the movie The Queen. On the official website of World Theater Day, you can find information and this year's Message (See here).

In other words, March 27th of each year is a celebration for the theater and each author of the messages has imprinted a character to his message, which has to do with the vision of the world of each one of them and with the reality that is lived worldwide.

In 1995, the honor of writing the message fell to my father, Humberto Orsini, who had already developed an incredible theatrical work worldwide, in different international organizations and as a teacher, playwright and theater director in Venezuela.

His message was in line with his belief that the function of theater should be social and the message today, with the exception of the problem with COVID-19, has the same value and the same validity as 16 years ago.

My tribute to all the people who dedicate their lives to the theater, my small contribution to this celebration and a tribute to my father, as well as to my mother, as an actress and as the woman who always accompanied him in all areas, is to bring today once again that text, in a version narrated by me.
