There are things that because they are so extreme in some way, they end up having the opposite effect. For that reason some extremely dramatic scenes can end up being funny and some extremely macho lyrics can end up being sung as a joke in a woman's voice. Such is the case with this song, by an anonymous author, which was popularized by the wonderful Venezuelan singer Cecilia Todd.
Of course, with the amount of parodies and double-entendres songs that emerged in Caracas in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it's hard to say that the original intention was not also to make machismo look bad.
The truth is that after Cecilia sang it, many men have already dared to sing it without fear of being accused of misogyny.
This Venezuelan waltz, apart from being part of the cultural heritage of the city, seems to me to have a beautiful and strong melody. For that reason I bring it here today and it is my participation in Hive Open Mic, week 9.
Y desde entonces mi vida es un infierno;
vivir un d铆a y el otro padecer.
Flor de verano que marchit贸 el invierno
porque era falso tu querer.
Dijiste que me amabas y era mentira,
dijiste que eras sola para m铆.
T煤 no has querido nunca a nadie,
mujer, yo te maldigo, adi贸s, adi贸s.
I was lucky but I didn't know it,
life was a delight to me.
Everything was bliss, adventure and joy
until the moment I met you.
And since then my life has been hell;
living one day and suffering the next.
Summer flower that withered the winter
because your love was false.
You said you loved me and that was a lie,
you said you were just for me.
You've never loved anyone,
you don't know love.
And in the middle of the silence of the night,
woman, I curse you, goodbye, goodbye.
