Miguel Matamoros (1894-1971) was a Cuban musician who was a fundamental part of the development of Cuban son, a rhythm that eventually gave rise to what we call salsa. He was the composer of numerous pieces and the creator of several groups that made history in this musical genre, such as the "Trío Matamoros", without a doubt the one with the greatest projection.

Another Cuban musician, Adalberto Álvarez, one of the most prominent in salsa, paid tribute to Matamoros and performed a potpourri or medley of some of the most popular hits by the famous trio, which begins with the wonderful bolero-son "Lágrimas negras" and closes with a song that is practically an anthem within Cuban music, as is the "Son de la loma".

When I started working in night clubs, I decided to include this tribute in my repertoire and I made the midi version of it for my Korg i-30 keyboard, which is precisely the one that sounds like a backing track. This is my entry for the Hive Open Mic, week 26.

Miguel Matamoros(1894-1971) fue un músico cubano que fue pieza fundamental para el desarrollo del son cubano, ritmo que finalmente dio origen a lo que llamamos salsa. Fue compositor de numerosas piezas y creador de varios grupos que hicieron historia en este género musical, como lo fue el “Trío Matamoros”, sin duda el de mayor proyección.

Otro músico cubano, Adalberto Álvarez, de los más destacados en la salsa, le hizo un homenaje a Matamoros y realizó un potpurrí o medley de algunos de los éxitos más sonados por el famoso trío, que empieza con el maravilloso bolero-son “Lágrimas negras” y cierra con una canción que es prácticamente un himno dentro de la música cubana, como lo es el “Son de la loma”.

Cuando yo empecé a trabajar en locales nocturnas, decidí incluir ese homenaje en mi repertorio y realicé la versión midi del mismo para mi teclado Korg i-30, que es precisamente la que suena como pista. Esta es mi participación para el Hive Open Mic, semana 26.
