Cuban music has made the greatest contribution to salsa, among these are the many rhythms originating from the island. One of them has had a life of its own around the world and has become part of the ballroom dances in competitions all over the planet: the Cha cha chá.

This rhythm, which is in turn a series of variations on the danzón rhythm, became popular in the 1950s and was the brainchild of musician Enrique Jorrín. The name of the rhythm came later and was a product of the onomatopoeia produced by the feet when dancing to it.

It is considered that the first Cha cha chá composed by Jorrín, and therefore the first in history, is precisely this one entitled La Engañadora (The Deceiver).

I had never wanted to sing it because I had not found an accompaniment that had the original flavor, but thanks to new technologies, it is now possible to remove the voices from the original recordings, maintaining the sound quality.

This, then, is my entry for the Hive Open Mic, week 121.

La música cubana ha hecho el aporte mayor a la salsa, entre estos están la cantidad de ritmos originarios de la isla. Uno de ellos ha tenido vida propia alrededor del mundo y se ha convertido en parte de los bailes de salón en concursos en todo el planeta: el Cha cha chá.

Este ritmo, que es a su vez una serie de variaciones sobre el ritmo del danzón, se popularizó en los años 50 y fue obra y creación del músico Enrique Jorrín. El nombre del ritmo llegó posteriormente y fue producto del onomatopeya que producen los pies al bailarlo.

Se considera que el primer Cha cha chá que compuso Jorrín y por lo tanto, el primero en la historia es precisamente este que lleva por título La Engañadora.

Yo nunca lo había querido cantar porque no había conseguido un acompañamiento que tuvieron el sabor original, pero gracias a las nuevas tecnologías, ahora es posible quitarles las voces a las grabaciones originales, manteniendo la calidad del sonido.
