One of the musical genres that I enjoy most is salsa. The music of the Caribbean has a very special magic and reflects in a very clear way the spirit of us. Without a doubt it is a music with deep roots, which has inherited all the baggage of ethnic mixtures and experiences of what some have called "the Latin race".

Ismael Rivera, from Puerto Rico, was one of the great exponents of this music and is one of the greatest references for all lovers of this music. However, not all the repertoire he performed was a Caribbean creation. In fact, one of the greatest hits of this great artist is a Brazilian song from the 50's. But the impact that the version of "Maelo" (as Ismael Rivera is widely known) had was overwhelming and is today one of the classics of salsa.

So this song, by Luiz Vieira and Arnaldo Pasos, whose original title is "O Menino de Braçana", but which in the world of Caribbean music is known as "Mi negrita me espera" (My little black girl is waiting for me), is my participation in the Hive Open Mic, week 22.

But before leaving you with the song, I want to express my gratitude and congratulations to @cabelindsay for the wonderful work they have been doing for this great event: "Hive Open Mic".

Uno de los géneros musicales que yo más disfruto es la salsa. La música del Caribe tiene una magia muy especial y refleja de una manera muy clara el espíritu de nosotros. Sin duda es una música de profunda raíz, que ha heredado todo el bagaje de mezclas étnicas y de vivencias de lo que algunos han llamado “la raza latina”.

Ismael Rivera, de Puerto Rico, fue uno de los grandes exponentes de esta música y es una de las máximas referencias para todos los amantes de esta música. Si embargo no todo el repertorio interpretado por él era creación caribeña. De hecho uno de los más grandes éxitos de este gran artista, es una canción brasileña de los años 50. Pero el impacto que tuvo la versión de “Maelo” (como se conoce ampliamente a Ismael Rivera, fue contundente y es hoy en día uno de los clásico de la salsa.

Así que esta canción, de Luiz Vieira y Arnaldo Pasos, cuyo título original es “O Menino de Braçana”, pero que en el mundo de la música caribeña se le conoce como “Mi negrita me espera”, es mi participación en el Hive Open Mic, semana 22.

Pero antes de dejarlos con la canción, quiero expresar mi agradecimiento y felicitaciones a @cabelindsay por el maravilloso trabajo que ha venido haciendo en pro de este grandioso evento: “Hive Open Mic”.
