A couple of days ago I heard the sad news of the physical departure of Eduardo Galían, a Uruguayan musician who dedicated most of his life to musical creation in Venezuela. Without a doubt, he is the best bandoneon player that has ever lived in the country and that at an early age stood out with his instrument in his native land and in neighboring Argentina.

A musician who leaves without having received the right recognition to his work, to his contribution, not only to tango but to music in general.

An autodidact who overcame his visual disability and was able to achieve extraordinary mastery without ever having had a teacher. A privileged mind with a unique musicality and an extraordinary memory that allowed him to remember melodies and arrangements with surprising precision.

I had the opportunity to work with him on several occasions. The first time was when we invited him to participate in the 30th anniversary of the group Los Cañoneros, where we invited him to join us in the Caracas pasodoble "Tango Fever", a composition of mine that narrates what was the fever of tango in the 1930s in Venezuela. Taking advantage of the fact that the song includes fragments of "La Cumparsita", I wanted to include the bandoneon and so we did,

In 2014 I decided to record a couple of songs with him. At that time I was experimenting with the smallest possible formats to make gunboat music. So in that format I recorded two pasodobles, both of my compositions, "Tango Fiebre" and "Linda Guajira". That's why the equipment used in this recording is voice, guitar, drums and the beautiful sound of the bandoneon.

The experience was unforgettable because Eduardo was a very special person. Although the images and videos were made only for documentary purposes, today they serve to pay tribute to this great musician, who died in his native Uruguay, but who knew how to fill Venezuela with good music, during the 43 years I was in our country.

In this video I share some comments about him and the recording of the mentioned song.

I hope that this recording will serve to contribute to honoring his memory.
