Hive Open Mic Week #119 - Caballo Viejo (Cover) by @yisusth [ENG/SPA]

When it comes to prejudice, no one is exempt, we are always victims and also part of the problem. Many times that put us on the defensive, imagine, if I see a motorist with a companion, there are two possible reactions: First one I freeze or I just run away. They are simple stereotypes that we have set ourselves by situations that have happened to us. One of those prejudices that I have experienced is because at his age he has not married, or if you have a partner because they do not have children and so on an endless thread of things. For a time I had the opportunity to be a missionary and to speak with many people on the street, even with people who live in poverty, I discovered that not everyone is crazy. It was a prejudice that I had toward people who did not have a home. As he got to know them, his love for them increased. The Cure for prejudice is to see people with love, even towards those we believe are not perfect. In the end, neither are we.

Cuando se trata de prejuicios nadie está exento, siempre somos víctimas y también parte del problema. Muchas veces eso nos pone a la defensiva, imagínense, si yo veo a un motorizado con acompañante, hay dos posibles reacciones: La primera me quedo paralizado o simplemente salgo corriendo. Son simples estereotipos que nos hemos fijado por situaciones que nos han sucedido. Uno de esos prejuicios que he vivido, es porque con su edad no se ha casado, o si tienes pareja, porque no tienen hijos y así un interminable hilo de cosas. Por un tiempo tuve la oportunidad de ser misionero y de hablar con muchas personas en la calle, incluso con personas que viven en la indigencia, descubrí que no todos están locos. Era un prejuicio que tenía de las personas que no tenían un hogar. A medida que iba conociéndolos, el amor por ellos se incrementó. La Cura para los prejuicios es ver a las personas con amor, incluso hacia aquellos que creemos que no son perfectos. Al final nosotros tampoco lo somos.

Today I bring you my interpretation of «Caballo Viejo», the work of Maestro Simón Díaz, who was and will forever be an icon of Venezuelan culture. I love the lyrics of this song because it tells us about various prejudices, and teaches us that love has no time or date on the calendar, no matter the age to fall in love. As some of you may know, I am a trumpeter, and the first part of this interpretation is with the instrument. I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to sing, it's the first time I've done it in this community, a few weeks ago I did it alone with the trumpet. When I was a child I sang in church with my mother, and then on some occasions at the university, I had to sing in choirs and a couple of times with a Creole music group.

Hoy les traigo mi interpretación de «Caballo Viejo», obra del Maestro Simón Díaz, quien fue y será por siempre un icono de la cultura venezolana. Me encanta la letra de esta canción porque nos habla de varios prejuicios, y nos enseña que el amor no tiene horario ni fecha en el calendario, no importa la edad para enamorarse. Como algunos sabrán soy trompetista, y mi primera parte de esta interpretación es con el instrumento. No quería pasar la oportunidad de cantar, es la primera vez que lo hago en esta comunidad, hace unas semanas lo hice solo con la trompeta. Cuando estaba niño cantaba en la Iglesia con mi mamá, y luego en algunas ocasiones en la Universidad me toco cantar en coros, y un par de veces con una agrupación de música criolla.

Later, I had to organize choral groups in schools, high schools, and the Church. One of the challenges I have is that since I have always played instruments like the piano and the trumpet, these instruments are melodic, and believe me, I know how to judge who sings well and who sings badly. I think that makes me prejudice my voice, it's something I'm trying to fix. I don't consider myself a great singer, but I try. I hope you enjoy it.

Posteriormente, me toco organizar agrupaciones corales en escuelas, liceos, y en la Iglesia. Uno de los desafíos que tengo es que como siempre he tocado instrumentos como el piano y la trompeta, estos instrumentos son melódicos, y créanme, yo sé juzgar quien canta bien y quien lo hace mal. Pienso que eso me hace ser prejuicioso de mi propia voz, es algo que estoy tratando de solucionar. No me considero un gran cantante, pero lo intento. Espero lo disfruten.
