A man's thoughts and his mindset affect his body too, I found this a short story written by O Henry. The Last Leaf in which a woman is battling a disease and she loses hope that she will now survive one comparing her life with the leaves of the tree, she thinks that if the last leaf of this tree falls on the ground, on that day she will also pass through the world, all the leaves of that tree fall but that woman survives. The reason for this is an old painter who draws such a real husband on that tree that she cannot understand that all the leaves of the tree have fallen and she recovers from that disease, then her last hope is false leaf drawn by old person.
