The U.N. Security Council met to discuss Russian claims of biological weapons research labs in Ukraine. Russian Ambassador to the U.N. Vassily Nebenzia outlined what he said was evidence of these labs discovered by Russian soldiers. Ambassador Nebenzia claimed this research was being funded by the United States. The U.N. Under Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu said the U.N. is, “not aware of any biological weapons program in Ukraine.” The U.S. and Ukrainian U.N. Ambassadors, Linda Thomas-Greenfield and Sergiy Syslytsya respectively, denied Russia’s allegations.
