Venezuela se lleva el oro, la plata y el bronce en panamericano de ajedrez

Luego de estar algo inactivo durante este ultimo par de semanas retomo la publicación de contenido; a pesar de que no posteo recientemente, si he estado pendiente que han pasado muchas cosas interesantes en nuestro ecosistema blockchain, los mercados han oscilado positivamente para los tenedores de hive y nuevas actualizaciones vienen en camino.

After being somewhat inactive for the last couple of weeks I am back to posting content; although I haven't posted recently, I have been aware that a lot of interesting things have been happening in our blockchain ecosystem, the markets have been swinging positively for hive holders and new updates are on the way.

La razón por la que estaba inactivo durante estos días ha sido porque me encontraba de viaje, concretamente estaba representando a mi país Venezuela en el IX Panamericano de Ajedrez para Personas con Discapacidad Visual celebrado en la hermosa ciudad de Pereira-Colombia del 29 de Noviembre al 03 de Diciembre. Esta fue toda una aventura cargada de muchas anécdotas y nuevas experiencias desde el punto de vista competitivo, en este post me gustaría compartir mis impresiones, resultados y muchos más detalles de este campeonato.

The reason why I was inactive during these days has been because I was traveling, specifically I was representing my country Venezuela in the IX Pan American Chess Championship for the visually impaired held in the beautiful city of Pereira-Colombia from November 29 to December 03. This was an adventure full of many anecdotes and new experiences from the competitive point of view, in this post I would like to share my impressions, results and many more details of this championship.

Como ya sabrán, he publicado numerosas entradas referentes a la trayectoria del equipo venezolano, selección a la que muy orgullosamente formo parte desde hace ya varios años.

Ahora bien, desde que inició esta pandemia la realización de eventos presenciales a mermado en gran media y el ajedrez online ha tomado un protagonismo sumamente vertiginoso, no obstante, este año pudo realizarse de manera satisfactoria el IX Panamericano para Personas con Discapacidad Visual, un evento que reúne a 5 banderas luego de una pausa bastante prolongada, así es, la acción sobre el tablero presencial vuelve y nos llena de mucha alegría el poder compartir nuevamente con toda la comunidad de ajedrez de América Latina.

As you may already know, I have published numerous posts about the trajectory of the Venezuelan team, a team that I have been proudly part of for several years now. Now, since this pandemic began, the realization of face-to-face events has diminished greatly and online chess has taken a very dizzying protagonism, however, this year could be held satisfactorily the IX Pan American for the visually impaired, an event that brings together 5 flags after a fairly long break, that's right, the action on the face-to-face board returns and fills us with great joy to share again with the entire chess community of Latin America.

Momentos antes de iniciar el viaje a Colombia

El campeonato fue realizado en dos marcos: por una parte sirvió para homenajear al recién fallecido activista del ajedrez visual Daniel Morelli de Argentina, quien fue un gran promotor de la disciplina y que gracias a su trabajo el ajedrez para personas con discapacidad tiene la presencia que hoy en día ostenta; el segundo marco es el escenario de los Juegos Panamericanos realizados en Cali en el cual múltiples deportes desempeñaron sus respectivas competencias.

The championship was held in two frames: on the one hand, it served as a tribute to the recently deceased visual chess activist Daniel Morelli from Argentina, who was a great promoter of the discipline and thanks to his work, chess for people with disabilities has the presence it has today; the second frame is the scenario of the Pan American Games held in Cali in which multiple sports played their respective competitions.

Como dato a resaltar, Venezuela posee un fuerte equipo que ha participado en campeonatos mundiales y ha figurado por encima de los países de América, sin embargo, el equipo criollo no ha participado en los juegos panamericanos desde 1997 y este evento serviría como “el rencuentro” de la vinotinto del ajedrez en torneos de esta naturaleza.

However, the Venezuelan team has not participated in the Pan American Games since 1997 and this event would serve as the "reunion" of the "vinotinto" chess team in tournaments of this nature.

No obstante, la asistencia de nuestra delegación estaba “en jaque” semanas antes de dar inicio la contienda, de hecho, en Octubre fueron celebradas las Paralimpiadas de Ajedrez en Grecia y por problemas de presupuesto la selección tricolor no pudo asistir, todo parecía apuntar a que lo mismo sucedería con el panamericano de Colombia, la fecha se acercaba y a pesar de que el evento estaba en la planificación, la situación económica del país entorpecía los procedimientos relativos a la gestión de recursos que el equipo necesitaría para asistir al panamericano.

However, the attendance of our delegation was "in check" weeks before the start of the competition, in fact, in October the Chess Paralympics were held in Greece and due to budget problems the tricolor team could not attend, everything seemed to point out that the same would happen with the Pan American Championship in Colombia, the date was approaching and although the event was in the planning, the economic situation of the country hindered the procedures related to the management of resources that the team would need to attend the Pan American Championship.

Tras una gran incertidumbre, ya a pocos días de la fecha limite, el equipo logró acudir a la fiesta del tablero, esta vez el traslado fue vía terrestre, una travesía titánica que sumó más de 30 horas en bus desde el punto de partida en el estado Zulia hasta la ciudad de Pereira en donde se efectuaran los juegos.

After great uncertainty, and a few days before the deadline, the team managed to attend the party of the board, this time the transfer was by land, a titanic journey that totaled more than 30 hours by bus from the starting point in the state of Zulia to the city of Pereira where the games will be held.

Afortunadamente, llegamos un día antes de la competición y esto fue vital pues pudimos descansar lo suficiente para recargar baterías y empezar con todas las fuerzas el día lunes temprano en la mañana. Llegamos el Salado 27, el Domingo 28 fue realizado el congresillo técnico en el cual fueron repasadas las condiciones y demás palabras de bienvenida. En esta reunión se cumplió con el protocolo de inauguración de los juegos dedicando un minuto de silencio a la memoria del Argentino Daniel Morelli. Ese Domingo por la noche el técnico de la selección FM (FIDE Master) José Arturo Tores nos indico las estrategias a seguir durante el campeonato, es de resaltar la comunicación que el equipo mantuvo durante toda la competencia.

Fortunately, we arrived a day before the competition and this was vital because we were able to rest enough to recharge batteries and start with all the strength early Monday morning. We arrived on Salado 27, on Sunday 28 was held the technical meeting in which were reviewed the conditions and other words of welcome. In this meeting the protocol of inauguration of the games was fulfilled dedicating a minute of silence to the memory of the Argentinean Daniel Morelli. That Sunday night the technician of the FM selection (FIDE Master) José Arturo Tores indicated the strategies to follow during the championship, it is to highlight the communication that the team maintained throughout the competition.

Congresillo Técnico

En cuanto a las condiciones técnicas, este fue un Campeonato Individual de 7 rondas a ritmo clásico, es decir, 90 minutos + 30 segundos de incremento para cada jugador, además cada día se jugarían 2 partidas, una en la mañana a las 9am y otra por la tarde alas 3pm, algo que pudiera ser cuestionado ya que este tipo de “maratón” lleva al máximo la condición física del jugador y pudiera decirse que el cansancio producido es descomunal. En Europa estos campeonatos tienden a efectuarse a razón de una ronda diaria lo cual es ideal pues el ajedrecista descansa más y las partidas comprenden una mejor calidad.

As for the technical conditions, this was an Individual Championship of 7 rounds at classical rhythm, that is, 90 minutes + 30 seconds of increment for each player, in addition each day 2 games would be played, one in the morning at 9am and another in the afternoon at 3pm, something that could be questioned since this type of "marathon" takes to the maximum the physical condition of the player and it could be said that the fatigue produced is enormous. In Europe these championships tend to be held at the rate of one round per day, which is ideal because the chess player rests more and the games are of a better quality.

En relación a los países presentes: Guatemala, México, Ecuador, Colombia y Venezuela firmaron su asistencia. La selección Nacional estuvo conformada por Harlen Otero del Zulia, Edgar Rivas de Carabobo, Victor Abiad y Juan Polanco del Estado Falcón, FM Jose Arturo Torres fue el entrenador del combinado.

Regarding the countries present: Guatemala, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela signed their attendance. The National team was formed by Harlen Otero from Zulia, Edgar Rivas from Carabobo, Victor Abiad and Juan Polanco from Falcon State, FM Jose Arturo Torres was the coach of the team.
