    About :

Music has a healing feature beyond enjoying the sound we hear. Some sounds create such deep meanings that the traces that these meanings leave on us keep revolving in our minds for life. It constantly reminds us of different feelings.

The instrument (baglama) you see in my hand has such a feature. Unlike new and modern baglamas, it has an old tone. There are also some technical differences compared to modern baglama. First, the instrument boat has a pointed ax-shaped appearance. Thanks to this feature, the circulation of the sound in the mooring boat is differentiated.

Secondly, the wire binding system is different. In standard bindings, there are thin steel wires with a diameter of 0.18 mm in the lower wire group, and steel wires with a diameter of 0.30 mm in the middle wire group. In the old baglama I have, there is 0.30 mm steel wire in the lower wire group. In the middle wire group, there are 0.20 mm thin steel wire and thick bamboo wire together. This difference in the wire binding system is one of the elements that makes the sound of my old baglama very different. If you notice, it has a more bass character.

Another factor that distinguishes this baglama from the standard baglama is the note pitch density on it! Although the neck part is longer in old bağlamas, the number of note pitches is less and the pitch intervals are much wider. Therefore, some sounds are absent. For example, sounds such as mi flat, si natural and fa natural are not here, but due to the structure of Turkish music, there are plenty of quarter sounds.

Apart from that, there are also differences. For example, the materials used in varnishing are also applied according to traditional methods, but I think that this is enough in order not to prolong the subject.

The resulting sound is extremely magical to me. When combined with a correct vocal interpretation, a calm music that can really be listened to for hours emerges. I guess this can improve both the performer and the listener. I leave you alone with the folk song called Harabat Ehliyiz that I performed. Good listening.
