We have to be renewed by the power of the Holy Ghost. We have to be washed of our sins. We have to be regenerated by God.

On our own, we cannot refrain from evil because the devil is powerful, especially to our flesh. There's lust, or desire of the flesh in every man.

James 1:14 says ever man is tempted when he's drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

Our flesh makes us to do wrong. It's the lust of the flesh that makes a man want to see a naked woman, and vice versa. There are bad things in all of us - lust of the flesh, lust of the eye.

On our own, we cannot make corrections. Jer. 10:23 says it's not in man to direct his steps. All the institutions of man are not able to correct us. But, Prov. 16:9 says it is the Lord that directs our steps. It's only the Lord that can correct us.
