Today I want to share with you what I saw on a little trip to a neighboring town, Quíbor.
This place is called "Las Carcavas de Quíbor" They are located in the state of Lara, Venezuela, Av. Rotaria Circunvalación Sur, in front of the Centro Artesanal La Tinaja de Quíbor in the Municipality of Jiménez, and are the product of hundreds of years of erosion caused by water and wind.
The formations that look like windows in the earthy walls are called tubifications, erosion undermines the soil so that does not reduce its height but creates holes, as a result, there are some spectacular natural bridges, and a little dangerous, because they are not easy to notice when walking over and you could fall; but calm with careful walking accidents are avoided, and especially if you have a local tour guide who can teach you how to circulate in this maze without getting lost.
Much of the floor is covered with a black layer, it feels like a shell, of a different material than the rest of the floor. It is moss, the sun and the lack of water make it go into a state of estivation or dormancy, keeping itself alive by reducing all its functions, waiting for the arrival of water to green up, a process that happens incredibly fast as you can see towards the end of the video.
