Many discount Tesla because they look at an overpriced car company. While that is one framework, we have to take into account the TAM that the company is going after along with the different segments it is targeting.
In this video I discuss how Tesla is similar to Apple and Amazon. Looking back it is easy to see the potential of those companies. Yet how many saw it at the time and, worse, how many were arguing against those who saw it?
