The swing/jazz duo @Swing47 that I am part of were asked to perform at a memorial event for local open mic regular Mike Capay. This was held at The Three Tuns pub in the village of Guilden Morden today.
This was a nice event with lots of folk sitting out in the pub garden enjoying lots of great live music. I do not think I had been to the village before, but it looks nice with some fine old buildings.
Some friends who we play with in our other band were doing solo slots that went down well. Danielle and I were a rare duo and possibly the first act with an instrument other than a guitar. We had lots of songs ready, but only had a fairly short slot. We still managed seven songs. Pennies From Heaven was tempting fate a bit as there were a couple of rain showers whilst we were there I sang one other song with the rest being instrumental. We finished with the Cantina Song from Star Wars that always goes down well. My right hand was struggling a bit, but I had enough strength to get through that fast tune.
We had some nice comments afterwards. We do have something different to offer from the pop and rock covers that many people do and Danielle plays some great solos.
We could not stay for all the bands, but it looked like lots of money was being raised for Mike's family's charities.
Our band Swing 42 (can you spot a theme?) is playing tomorrow lunchtime at The Railway Steamer in Shefford, but Danielle will not be at that gig. It is a busy musical weekend for me, but it is all fun.
Rock on!
