For us, winter means human hibernation, I know practically it's not possible. But in our case can be said so. The days are short and it gets dark early in winter in Sweden. In such a climate, after a busy day, there is no energy that we get in summer. So summer in Sweden means festivals for us.
Before summer started this year, I had prepared a list of various odd places to visit. And the first name on the list was Alsgruvan, an old abandoned mine a few kilometres south of Gnesta.
Finding this mine is not difficult at all. Google has the location of this mine and another reason is that it is located right next to Highway 224 so you don't have to struggle to find it. Being on the highway, this mine does not have a parking place.
Well, we parked the car a few metres away, where we saw a small space. And walking along the side of the road with great care, we reached this mine.
I asked @nazneen-ansari , @hamza-art and my daughter Ilma to stay outside and I went inside the mine with @saif-ul-wahab . It was dark inside. We lit our mobile flashlight but nothing was visible.
This mine is about 100 metres long and after some distance we started seeing light from the other side. Saif and I took long strides and started walking towards that light. Where the light was coming from was a hole at the top of the cave. And beyond that the path was slippery and very narrow.
We were inside and there was no outside sound except the chirping of the sparrows. You can see in the video that my wife waiting outside was worried because she couldn't see anything inside.
Coming out I told them all about the unique and interesting experience inside. And once again we all decided to go in together.
This time I pulled out my boom hand crank radio, which I carry with me on every trip. It has many other features including a flashlight & power bank.
Everything was clearly visible in the boom light.
We again went to the end and after spending some time there, Hamza said that the light coming from above, why don't we go up from outside and see that hole.
Coming out, we climbed this mound. Even after searching for a long time, we did not find that hole and we returned exhausted.
But the whole family including me had a lot of fun and from here our cave and mine exploration journey started.
Which I will share soon in my next blog.
