    Hello Music Lovers ❤️❤️❤️❤️

    It's week #152 on Hiveopenmic. This week's theme is titled ; Traditional Music chosen by @bertrayo.

    This theme took me down memory lane, as I remembered the songs i heard from my parents while growing up, there are lots of songs to choose from and I have decided to share a song titled : LAYE OLUGBON ( This literally means During the reign of OLUGBON or In olugbon's time).

    LAYE OLUGBON is a Yoruba song. Yoruba is one of the major ethnic groups in Nigeria. The names of the people mentioned in this song are Olugbon, Aresa and Abiodun and they are past Kings or Rulers in Yoruba land and the song talks about how their reign was favourable to people far and wide. The masses (especially women) were able to buy things they want at a cheaper rate and it is said that it is only a lazy person that would say their reign was not enjoyable.

    The reason why I chose this song is because I am hoping that this new era in Nigeria, we can also enjoy like those people in those days. We had our presidential election in Nigeria on 25th of February 2023 and we will be having another on 18th of March 2023 to choose the next Governor of Lagos State in Nigeria. I pray the best man wins and their era be favourable to the masses.

    This is the lyrics to the song below;

    Laye olugbon,
    mo da borun meje,
    e o wa ko yi lorin,

    Laye aresa,
    Mo da borun mefa,
    e o wa ko yi lorin,

    Laye Abiodun,
    Mo ra koko, Mo ra aran, Baba aso,
    A fo'le, lole pe ile yi o dun,
    Eni ba pe ile yi o dun, ko yara keru soko.

    This is the meaning of the above lyrics ;

    In Olugbon's time,
    I own seven short cloths, ( This is used by women to cover their neck)
    Put this to a song.

    During Aresa's reign,
    I own six cloths,
    Why don't you put this to music?

    In the time of Abiodun,
    I bought velvet,silks and other pricey cloths,
    It is only a lazy person that would say this land is not enjoyable.
    Anyone who says this land is not good should pack his loads and leave.

    This Image is mine.

    This is me putting on iro (wrapper)and buba(blouse) together with gele (Headgear) and ipele (sash). This is the dressing of a typical Yoruba girl.

    I am a YORUBA girl,
    I am from NIGERIA,
    I am an AFRICAN,
    I love my CULTURE.
