Hello friends of HIVE! A warm greeting to everyone and especially to the #fulldeportes community, I am pleased to continue my story in the 64 boxes. This time, I will tell you how I progressed remarkably in my game and how was my first children's stadium. As I told you in my penultimate post, my teammates at the Dama Blanca club explained to me that to go to the nationals I first had to go to a state championship, very well, by 2006 I was already 10 years old, and I continued with my training and attending tournaments.
There was a tournament in the city of El Tigre, where it was divided into 4 mixed categories: under 8, under 10, under 12 and under 14, that is, girls and boys together in a single category according to their year of birth. In my U10 category, there were boys and girls with more experience in the game than me, there were 3 children (1 boy and 2 girls) who were known as the favorites or those who dominated the category so to speak and then there was me, a new unknown player with very little experience but with the desire and willingness to improve every day. In this tournament, I was the surprise of the day or as we say here in Venezuela the batacazo hehehe, there were 7 rounds, which I won all, and each victory of this tournament meant a hope or an illusion that if I could achieve my goals and dreams in chess, I had to play with the favorites of the category and I managed to win, when I finished my games with these 3 children after giving the result to the arbiter and he verified that it was the correct one I went running to teacher Elizabeth and gave her the news of my victory, she could not believe it, her face of surprise and amazement was very funny to me and, of course, I was jumping with happiness hehehehe. Teacher Elizabeth congratulated me and quickly called teacher Alexander and told him what happened, he also congratulated me and told me that those kids were very strong and that this meant that I was progressing. In this opportunity I won my first trophy winning each of my games, and that for me was the greatest happiness and well that happiness was also because of the pizza and ice cream that I ate after finishing the award hehehehe.
As the days went by, my teammates and I trained with great dedication to achieve the best results and with the goal of being on the podium and qualify for the national championship to be held in the state of Merida. One day before the state championship, the teacher Elizabeth gave me a shirt that had my name and surname and the logo of the Dama Blanca club and asked me to wear it for the inauguration of the state championship and said that we all had to be identified and reminded me that I had to be on Thursday in the Bolivar square on time at 7 a.m. to move to the city of El Tigre.
The big day arrived, and Cantaura was present in the children's state championship with its two clubs: Dama Blanca and Peón Astuto, also present were the municipalities of Guanta, El Tigre, Barcelona, and Aragua de Barcelona, these were the 5 municipalities present that were looking for a place to represent the state of Anzoátegui in the national championship in Mérida.
This tournament was for U8, U10, U12, U14 male and female categories and the pace of play was 1hour+30min with an additional 30 seconds increment per move to what in chess we call classical games and all players had to score their games. It was a full weekend tournament, it was two rounds per day, that is, one round in the morning and one round in the afternoon for a total of 7 rounds, leaving the last round for Sunday. The tournament was scheduled to start on Thursday at 9 a.m. but it was not so, some delegations arrived late and that made everything a little late, I remember that the game room was huge, for my young age I had not seen such a big room and there were many people (much more than a normal one day tournament), once all delegations were present we proceeded to start the inauguration and then the event began.
In my U10 female category there were 3 strong players one of them was from my municipality but she was not in any of the clubs of Cantaura, she was independent which was valid, she was the big favorite but in the first round the surprise was that she lost the first game against a girl from the municipality of Guanta and it was surprising how all the representatives commented what happened, I confess that during this tournament I was very nervous, it was my first state championship and the nerves were accompanying me in every game, I remember that in every game I prayed an Our Father to feel less nervous and to be able to concentrate better. The children's stadium went smoothly and without setbacks, by Saturday afternoon, in the 6th round I had to play against the favorite of the category, I came with 3.5 points out of 5 possible, and she came with 4 points out of 5 (despite losing the first round she was able to recover and take control of the tournament), we played our game and we drew (draw means tie, half a point for each) I reached 4 points out of 6 possible, while she reached 4.5 points out of 6 possible. At this point she was already qualified to the national and the last round would define if she was 1st or 2nd place, for my part I was still in the fight with the other players, for my luck the player that is close to me, in score, played against the favorite in the last round and that favored me because I won my last round and I was placed in the standings with 5 points out of 7 possible, the favorite did her job and won her last game and she reached 5.5 points out of 7 possible.
The great favorite at the end of the tournament recovered and managed to be state champion losing only one game, the U10 female category maintained its usual champion, for my part I managed to occupy 2nd place in the category, my first state and already being taken into account by the other municipalities and the status of beginner player I could take it off with this tournament and with the runner-up. My happiness was beyond words, my coach congratulated me along with my teammates and now the next goal was the national and try to give the best of me to be on the podium and among the best of Venezuela in my category. Well my dear friends, thank you for your receptivity, see you another time, a hug.
PS: This is a video of memories and I thought it was appropriate to choose a musical theme, LoFi, which just creates that atmosphere of nostalgia.
