    Have a wonderful week, friends of Hive Food! I greet you with much affection and enthusiasm. Today I would like to introduce you to a delicious dessert that I am sure you will love. It is called Coquitos (Caramelized Coconut Balls), a typical Venezuelan sweet made from shredded coconut. Let's take a look at the ingredients and the preparation.

    ¡Tengan una maravillosa semana, amigos de Hive Food! Les saludo con mucho afecto y entusiasmo. El día de hoy deseo presentarles un postre delicioso que estoy segura les va a encantar. Se trata de unos Coquitos, un dulce típico de Venezuela que se realiza a partir de coco rallado. Vamos a ver los ingredientes y la preparación.

    Ingredients / Ingredientes:

    • 2 Medium coconuts / 2 Cocos medianos

    • 200 g. Sugar / 200 g. de Azúcar

    • 1 Can or carton of condensed milk / 1 Lata o cartón de Leche condensada

    • 100 ml. of Water / 100 ml. de Agua

    Preparation:

  • We start by carefully opening the coconuts and then peel them to remove the skin.
  • Then, we proceed to grate all the coconut pulp.
  • Place the grated coconut in a pot to cook. Add the condensed milk, mix and cook for 10 minutes.
  • Traditionally coconut is mixed with syrup of water and sugar; however I wanted to make this variation and used condensed milk.
  • We take a handful of this dough and make little balls with our hands, it is important to wet our hands with water so that the dough does not stick to us.
  • Let the coconut balls refrigerate while we make the caramel.
  • For the caramel, place the water and sugar in a pan and let it reduce without stirring until the desired consistency is obtained.
  • With great care not to burn ourselves, we cover the coconut balls with the caramel, with the help of a skimmer and a spoon.
  • We let it rest and finally we can enjoy this two-textured candy that the whole family will love.
  • Preparación:

  • Comenzamos abriendo con cuidado los cocos y posteriormente pelamos parta retirar la piel.
  • Luego, procedemos a rallar toda la pulpa del coco.
  • Colocamos la ralladura de coco en una olla para su cocción. Agregamos la leche condensada, mezclamos y cocinamos por 10 minutos.
  • Tradicionalmente el coco se mezcla con un almíbar de agua y azúcar; sin embargo yo quise hacer esta variación y utilicé leche condensada.
  • Tomamos un puñado de esta masa y vamos armando bolitas con las manos, es importante humedecernos las manos con agua para que no se nos pegue la masa.
  • Dejamos refrigerar las bolitas de coco mientras pasamos a realizar el caramelo.
  • Para el caramelo colocamos el agua y azúcar en una sartén y dejamos reducir sin remover hasta que obtengamos la consistencia deseada.
  • Con mucho cuidado de no quemarnos, vamos cubriendo las bolitas de coco con el caramelo, con la ayuda de una espumadera y una cucharilla.
  • Dejamos reposar y finalmente podemos disfrutar de este dulce de dos texturas que le encanta a toda la familia.
