My neighbor asked me to be godmother to her baby's Christening. Though no date has been given yet because quarantine is still ongoing. But she did tell me there's gonna be a party for her baby's first birthday. And since there's the quarantine, I politely said we're trying to observe social distancing, we would not be able to attend such party.

Seeing the look of a mixture of what I think is disappointment, disbelief, and I don't know what else, I lost the courage to say no a second time to her. So I just said yes to being godmother to her little baby. I'm not sure I how I'll be able to carry out the role of godmother but I figured I'd start with making her feel loved by gifting her a handmade baby slip on.

I handed the gift 2 days ago. I think she liked it very much because she gave me that beautiful smile that just beamed full joy as I was waving at her from outside their window.

Let me share you the steps on how to make a crochet sole for the slip on. This is actually part 1 of my crochet baby slip on series. More videos coming up soon, so plese stay tuned.

I found [this pattern] online and used it as my guide. I actually did follow every step of the crochet. Although I added a few more chains at the foundation and added one more row to fit the little girl's cute little feet.

My Version of the Crochet Sole Pattern

    Chain 13

    Row 1:

3sc on the 2nd st from the hook.
    sc on the next 4ch
    hdc on the next 3ch
    DC on the next 4ch
    7sc on the next st
Now working on the opposite side...
    dc on the next 4ch
    hdc on the next 3ch
    sc on the next 4ch
sl st to close the row

    Row 2

    1ch, 2sc on the next 3st
    sc on the next 12st
    2sc on the next 5st
    sc on the next 12st
sl st to close the row

    Row 3

    1ch, [1sc on next st, 2sc on next]3x
    sc on the next 12st
    [1sc on next st, 2sc on next]5x
    sc on the next 12st
sl st to close the row

    Row 4

    1ch
sc on each st, work across
    sl st to close
    fasten off
    weave off ends.

The toughest part of making a crochet sole is making sure that both soles are the same size. So I highly recommend that you count each stitch on each row thoroughly. And make sure to complete the soles one after the other right away. The tension you apply to the stitches will matter a lot.

I was a bit stressed out when I made the first sole. Crocheting indeed relieves stress so make it a habit to crochet. Just make sure you finish the pairs right away when you're stress-crocheting.
