Welcome to my quick but easy to understand (hopefully) Crochet 101 Crash course. Nah, this is just me sharing the very little I know about crocheting. I am left handed and it's very seldom to see videos from lefthanded crocheters so here I am, just showing the world that we exist. lol
If you haven't yet, please do check out my previous video about Basic Crochet Stitches in youtube. That's an updated video with all the correct symbols and abbreviations.
For this video, I will be sharing three more basic crochet stitches that you will use throughout your crocheting journey: slip stitch, half double crochet, and double treble crochet. As for my crochet projects, I have often used half double crochet, a little of slip stitch, but I can't remember ever using double treble crochet. But it is fun both to say and to make the double treble crochet.
Let's start with the slip stitch. This is most commonly used as a sort of connecting stitch from one row to the next. Instead of fastening off and starting fresh on the following row, you could just slip stitch your way. On my first finished project for this year, for every row, I needed to make 2 or 3 slip stitches at the beginning.
To make a slip stitch, all you need to do is to insert the hook into the next stitch, then pull through two loops.
Half double crochet is a little bigger or thicker than single crochet. It's also a lot more sturdier. It's not for dresses or shirts though because it tends to be too thick or heavy but it could be very useful for table mats, small rugs and the likes.
To make a double crochet, you need to yarn over like you would a normal double crochet. Then insert the hook into the next stitch. Instead of pulling just two loops as you would in a double crochet, pull through all three loops.
This one I haven't really used in any of my projects. But I did see my mom use it on one of her doily projects back in the day. Also, if you are looking for a loose kind of finished product, I think this is one of the best stitches to use.
To make a double treble crochet, yarn over 3 times, insert the hook on the fifth stitch (if you're starting from foundation chains) then pull through 2 loops four times.
That's it for the basic stitches. I hope you learned something new from my video. Feel free to leave a comment or an upvote on my post. I will be sharing a few more video tutorials so stay tuned!
