Q-INSPIRED |ONE CAN BE DEFINED BY MUSIC/SONGS

Hello dear friends, I wish to share a thought with you concerning the kind of music we relate with. I hope you derive some meaning by reading through this entry and also listening to a medley of two ancient songs with deep meaning done by me and Santi my musical companion. By the way, Santi learns so fast and I'm very proud of him. ☺

Often times, people play music and sing songs without paying attention to the lyrics of the songs. The melody of some songs, their compositions and the way they are beautifully played with beautiful musical instruments often attract people to listen to them just for pleasure and not necessarily for the meaning they convey. I was a victim of this but not anymore. My orientation concerning the kind of music I relate with changed for good few years ago after I was attracted by a beautifully composed song with no reasonable meaning. As a matter of fact, because, it sounds so good and interesting to play, I played the song on several occasions without paying close attention to the lyrics. After some time, one of my friends called my attention to the lyrics of the song then I realized that it is not the kind of song I would naturally want to listen to or even play with my musical instruments to the hearing of others. The song portrays an ideology that is not congruous with what I stand for and it's completely in contrast with my ideologies and the kind of ideology I would naturally promote. I never knew I was advertising a wrong ideology by relating with such music.

It is not right for me to name the song in question; however, it is important to note that people have freedom to write songs the way they feel, using the kind of words that drive home their points or message. In the same vein, people also have the freedom to listen to or select the kind of songs that relate the message they desire. It's a free world and everyone is free to do whatever one feels like doing. Be that as it may, One should also be ready to take responsibility of the aftermath of one's action.

Different things define people in the society, including the kind of music one listens to or plays. I'm creating this awareness because I have come to realize that some people have been defined in line with the kind of music they do even though there is a sharp contrast between them and the kind of music they engage with. This confusion of ideology ensues when people are carried away by the melody of songs without paying attention to the lyrics of such songs.
If you do not want to receive a wrong definition or promote a wrong ideology based on the music or songs you engage with, it is very apt for you to pay attention to the lyrics of songs and select songs that properly relate with your person and ideologies.

I wish to share with you two beautifully composed ancient songs with beautiful lyrics and meaning. The first one is titled 'LORD JESUS THINK ON ME' while the second is titled 'GOD OF MERCY AND COMPASSION' they are both songs for the lenten season. They make a lot of meaning to me because they remind me of the need to always acknowledge my short comings and ask for mercy from God. Kindly pay close attention to the lyrics of the song as you listen to us play our flutes and also sing for you. I hope this entry meets you well and I hope it's in line with what you stand for.
