It was a quiet evening when I brought out my borrowed sax to rehearse some major scales with a friend who is also learning how to play the saxophone. As I was grappling with the scales on the Saxophone with my friend, a group of children abandoned running and playing around and came around the venue of my rehearsals. By the way, just to let you know that I started learning how to play the saxophone few days ago. As I embarked on this voyage of exploring the world of saxophone, I realized that I have done more than 60% of the work by being a Recorder player. In other words, the similarities between the Recorder and the saxophone can be compared to that of identical twins. With my knowledge of the Recorder, it was very easy for me to explore the saxophone without a mentor and without much stress. All thanks to Paulina who schooled me on how to play the Recorder. I'm really greatful to her because as she thought me the Recorder, she equally was teaching me how to play the saxophone without knowing. Wow! This is really interesting and it goes a long way to buttress the fact that 'in learning certain things well, other things become simpler to grasp naturally'. All I needed to do was to understand the logic of the Saxophone, spelling out the similarities and the contrast it has with the Recorder and everything was so clear to me. The similarities between the saxophone and the Recorder unveiled the contrast between them and I was able to navigate the differences within a very short period of time.

Era una noche tranquila cuando saqué mi saxofón prestado para ensayar algunas escalas mayores con un amigo que también está aprendiendo a tocar el saxofón. Mientras luchaba con las escalas del saxofón con mi amigo, un grupo de niños dejó de correr y jugar y se acercó al lugar de mis ensayos. Por cierto, solo para decirles que comencé a aprender a tocar el saxofón hace unos días. Cuando me embarqué en este viaje de exploración del mundo del saxofón, me di cuenta de que había hecho más del 60 % del trabajo siendo flautista. En otras palabras, las similitudes entre la flauta dulce y el saxofón se pueden comparar con las de los gemelos idénticos. Con mi conocimiento de la flauta dulce, fue muy fácil para mí explorar el saxofón sin un mentor y sin mucho estrés. Todo gracias a Paulina que me enseñó a tocar la flauta dulce. Le estoy muy agradecida porque como ella me consideraba la flauta dulce, igualmente me estaba enseñando a tocar el saxofón sin saberlo. ¡Guau! Esto es realmente interesante y contribuye en gran medida a reforzar el hecho de que "al aprender bien ciertas cosas, otras se vuelven más fáciles de entender de forma natural". Todo lo que necesitaba hacer era entender la lógica del saxofón, detallar las similitudes y el contraste que tiene con la flauta dulce y todo me quedó muy claro. Las similitudes entre el saxofón y la flauta dulce revelaron el contraste entre ellos y pude navegar las diferencias en un período de tiempo muy corto.

BACK TO MY STORY
When I came out with the saxophone for rehearsals, within five minutes into my rehearsals, a group of children gathered around me and were quietly seated watching me with so much interest. The level of their interestedness in what I was doing triggered my interest in them and I decided to include them in my musical journey for the evening. In other to incorporate them into my musical journey for the evening, I decided to play for them as they sang songs of their choices, as this continued for a while, I inquired about their best songs and almost all of them settled for two Marian songs. With my friend who is also leanring how to blow the saxophone, I did the songs together with the children under video coverage and they were all so excited. The children sang beautifully well the two Marian songs they selected, and I was so inspired by their comportment and innocent beautiful voices. The beautiful and innocent voices of the children mesmerized me so much and this makes me look forward to having them around each time I go out for rehearsals.

VOLVER A MI HISTORIA
Cuando salí con el saxofón para los ensayos, cinco minutos después de mis ensayos, un grupo de niños se reunió a mi alrededor y estaban sentados en silencio observándome con mucho interés. El nivel de su interés en lo que estaba haciendo despertó mi interés en ellos y decidí incluirlos en mi viaje musical por la noche. En otro para incorporarlos a mi viaje musical por la noche, decidí tocar para ellos mientras cantaban canciones de su elección, como esto continuó por un tiempo, pregunté sobre sus mejores canciones y casi todos se conformaron con dos canciones marianas. . Con mi amigo que también está aprendiendo a tocar el saxofón, hice las canciones junto con los niños bajo cobertura de video y todos estaban muy emocionados. Los niños cantaron muy bien las dos canciones marianas que seleccionaron, y me inspiró mucho su comportamiento y sus hermosas voces inocentes. Las hermosas e inocentes voces de los niños me cautivaron mucho y esto me hace desear tenerlos cerca cada vez que salgo a ensayar.

For the years I have been doing music, one thing I can say with all certainty is that children are naturally attracted and magneted by the sound of music especially the beautiful sound of the Saxophone and other musical instruments. There was never a day I went out with the saxophone and Recorder for rehearsals here in Kogi state without having a group of children around listening to me and eager to be incorporated into the musical world. I have always noticed this for a very long time and this is a basic background to my musical relationship with children in the various places I find myself. It is a pity that I have just a few days here in Kogi state before traveling back to Ibadan. As such, I cannot now start a music class with other children here except those who have been with me for about two weeks learning how to play the Recorder and singing Gregorian Chants.

Durante los años que he estado haciendo música, una cosa que puedo decir con toda certeza es que los niños se sienten naturalmente atraídos y atraídos por el sonido de la música, especialmente el hermoso sonido del saxofón y otros instrumentos musicales. Como tal, ahora no puedo comenzar una clase de música con otros niños aquí, excepto aquellos que han estado conmigo durante aproximadamente dos semanas aprendiendo a tocar la flauta dulce y cantar cantos gregorianos.
