Nature is violent. We have all seen TV specials when a group of animals sneak up on another waiting for the best moment to attack and then eat it.

Thanks to modern technology, travelers and park keepers are able to record the intense moments of the most violent and entertaining hunts in nature. But never has an encounter between prey and predator been so impressive.

Recently at Thornybush Game Reserve in Greater Kruger, South Africa, Kruger Sightings posted a video in which an impala can be seen hovering near a pond, probably drinking some water without knowing that danger was approaching.

A group of at least 16 wild dogs approach the impala with obviously the worst intentions and quickly corner him. But the impala determined to survive also began to run and dodge the attacks and bites of these predators.

“They have a reputation for being the most effective hunters in Africa, and they say that up to 80% of their hunts end in slaughter. Personally, I think it’s a bit tall, but it’s definitely way above that of a lion, cheetah, or leopard,” said Nick Dyer, wildlife photographer.

After a few seconds of chasing the impala jump impressively avoiding a couple more wild dogs. Upon returning to the ground, he realizes that he is outnumbered and has no other solution than to get into the water, definitively saving himself from the dogs that cannot swim.

Now the impala faces crocodile-infested waters. The intrepid animal continues swimming, poking its head on the surface to take air as it approaches the other shore where its third round of obstacles awaits, a group of hippos. One of them even seems to launch an attack at the impala that he also manages to dodge.

After two intense minutes, the impala comes out uninjured to the other side of the pond and runs away from the site to get to safety.
