Genesis 2:16-17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

It implied that Adam has a free choice even it is prphibited to him but he his aware that he can eat part of it the provision is you music not eat out of the tree which implies that the first man and woman are to choose obedience to GOD or disobedience .
The warning is loving and kindness GOD does not want us to lost if we are going to choose what his again his will,we will be penalized
