This is a topic very close to heart. I have had this discussion with Nigerians both home and abroad and I will say that, first of all, these are a mismatch of realities between both parties. The same with supposed Nigerian upper-middle-class and lower-middle-class.
The population of Nigeria is estimated at 180m. With a per capita income barely about $1,000. In the US it is $68,000.
According to our former CBN Governor, there are basically two things Nigeria can leverage on in the next 50years--technology and human capital. Currently, remittance from diaspora contributes over 6.1% to our GDP and it could be more. With an overpopulated country with poor management and infrastructure, it is my argument that Nigerians should seek to build capacity outside the shores of this country. And for many it isn't about finding greener pastures but being in a society where things work as the political will to move the county forward is lacking and there is very little that young and enterprising youths can do to salvage the situation of the country
