The Silver Fish: National Fish of Bangladesh

1 Gram 1 Taka or more based on size! I am talking about the silver fish! Hilsha fish we called them Ilish is the most delicious fish 🐟 of the county 😋 ! The price of the fish getting higher day by day where the quantity of fish received from the river is amazing as per data, the fish production was 517,000 tons in fiscal year 2017-2018 which is nearly double than 10 years before.

April is the most fertile month for this fish and there is fishing band few months in the year to save the young fishes growing up.

We do love to have this fish at our plate during lunch/dinner which is expensive for most of the people of the country. Per gram fish cost at least a taka or more which is not really affordable.

I went to find some fish for this month to the local big fish market and although it is season but the price is too high. I found the fish price is sky high in Kolkata as well See Data, this is nothing but the demand against the huge population of the area.

The amount of fish catches each year is not enough for the people of Bangladesh still we do Export hundreds of tonnes Hilsha to India. Due to scarcity of Ilish in Indian region and of course huge popularity & demand of the fish Bangladesh government export this fish to India as gift.

The rivers is dying in Bangladesh due to Farakka Dam and the Fish production is reducing day by day, many kids of fish already found extinction and many kind in the way. To save fishes we should have enough water in the river during dry season.
