Guten Morgen meine lieben Hive-Freunde!

Beim letzen Mal habt ihr ein paar Background Storys über meinen Einstieg in das
Musikbusiness und den damit einhergehenden Umzug nach Hamburg bekommen.

Der Kontakt zur Band KORBEN DALLAS fand aber noch zu meiner Zeit in Hessen statt. Da rock-lastige Acts in der Region sehr rar gesät waren, hatte ich immer ein offenes Ohr für Tipps.

Bei einer Newcomer-Show bekam ich dann diese eine Band von der pfälzischen Grenze empfohlen, sie wären "erfrischend anders" und "sehr unterhaltsam". Korben Dallas hatten ihr eigenes Genre geprägt, den "Panda-Core". Letzendlich vermischten sie den damals sehr gehypeten Metalcore mit ironischen Texten der Szene an sich - was ich in der Tat sehr unterhaltsam fand!

Nach erster Kontaktaufnahme luden sie mich eines Samstag Abends zu einem kleinen Gig ein, im LORBASS-Club Gelnhausen.

Ich stand ein wenig neben mir an dem Tag. Tagsüber fand in meiner Heimatstadt das erste Mal eine Musikmesse statt, auf der ich mich zwecks Eigenwerbung natürlich herumtrieb. Dort war zwar wenig zu holen in Sachen Business, doch traf ich eine alte Bekannte, die ich früher schon immer ziemlich heiss fand, was ich sie auch nach einem kurzen Smalltalk wissen ließ. Sie bewies mir kurz darauf im Backstage-Berech, dass sie das wohl ähnlich empfand - das ist aber eine andere Geschichte 😎

Ziemlich entspannt und leicht verwirrt fuhr ich anschliessend mit dem Zug zum Gig. Mit den Jungs der Band stimmte die Chemie sofort. Der Laden war voll und verschwitzt, die Musik etwas zu laut und schlecht abgemischt. Trotzdem fühlte ich mich von der Performance abgeholt und gut unterhalten, die Band strahlte eine unfassbare Spiel-Freude aus und wollte zu der Zeit nur eins - spielen, spielen, spielen. Und genau das brauchte ich gerade, um mir die ersten Sporen im Business zu verdienen.

In Hamburg angekommen, buchte ich ihnen zuerst einen Gig in der POOCA BAR, mit den Locals "Trailer Park Sex" als Opener und den gerade tourenden "ANCHORS & HEARTS" als Headliner, was uns die Hütte ordentlich voll machte. Der örtliche Veranstalter glänzte wie so oft durch Abwesenheit, was mir die Tür öffnete um mich vor Ort für spätere, höhere Aufgaben zu qualifizieren. Und die Lady an der Kasse entpuppte sich Monate später sowohl als grosse Liebe als auch grosses Verderben - aber dazu später mehr...

Der erste Gig war also ein Erfolg, die Jungs hatten ihren Spass auf der Reeperbahn und ich verlor sie aus den Augen, als ich die Kassen-Lady näher kennen lernte. Spät in der Nacht fand ich sie wieder, gegenüber in der "wilden Hilde". Der Bassist lag schon im Bett und der Gitarrist vor Ort auf dem Tresen - aber er schlief mit einem Lächeln im Gesicht - Mission erfolgreich 😎

Last time I told you guys some background stories about my beginning in this
music business and the associated move to Hamburg.

The contact to the band KORBEN DALLAS took place in Hessen during my time. Since rock-heavy acts were very rare in the region, I always had an open ear for tips.

At a newcomer show I got this one band recommended, they were "freshly different" and "very entertaining". Korben Dallas had shaped their own genre, the "Panda Core". In the end they mixed the then very hyped Metalcore with ironic lyrics of the scene itself - which I found very entertaining indeed!

After initial contact, they invited me to a small gig one Saturday evening at the LORBASS Club in Gelnhausen.

I was a little beside myself that day. During the day there was a music fair in my hometown for the first time, and of course I hung around there for the purpose of self-promotion. There wasn't much business to be had there, but I met an old acquaintance who I used to find pretty hot, which I let her know after a short small talk. She proved to me shortly afterwards in the backstage area that she probably felt the same way - but that's another story 😎

Pretty relaxed and slightly confused, I then took the train to the gig. There was immediate chemistry with the guys in the band. The place was full and sweaty, the music was a bit too loud and poorly mixed. Nevertheless, I felt picked up by the performance and well entertained, the band radiated an incredible joy of playing and at the time only wanted one thing - play, play, play. And that's exactly what I needed to earn my first spurs in the business.

Arrived in Hamburg, I booked them a gig at the POOCA BAR first, with the locals "Trailer Park Sex" as the opener and the currently touring "ANCHORS & HEARTS" as the headliners, which filled the club properly. As always, the local organizer was not there, which opened the door for me to qualify for later, higher tasks on site. And months later, the lady at the cash register turned out to be both great love and great ruin - but more on that later...

So the first gig was a success, the guys had fun on the Reeperbahn and I lost sight of them when I got to know the box office lady better. Late in the night I found them again, opposite in the "wilde Hilde". The bassist was already in bed and the guitarist on site on the counter - but he slept with a smile on his face - mission successful 😎
