015 Pastor Peter John Peters: Words & Power

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. - John 1:1

Christianity is nowadays weak for many reasons, one of which is the lack of knowledge (for which His people perish) of the creative power of the spoken word, resulting in reckless babbling.

Words are the determining factor in our lives and the foundation of every creation. According to Sir David Wynn Miller, improper use of language is one of the main reasons and culprits behind the violent nature of our world. Most of the used words and phrases are in the negative condition of the state. Those kinds of words dominate the vocabulary of young people who are unaware of their wrongdoings.

"That got me 💀💀" is something many young people say when they find something to be funny. Here are additional examples: "I am sick and tired", "I'm fed up", "I can't stand it", "I'm stabbed in the back", "My heart is broken", "That is killing me", "You make me sick", "That's driving me crazy/insane", "I can't see a way outta here", "I can't bare to see it", "It blows my mind", "Bloody this 'n' that", "I can't do it", "I'm afraid".

There are numerous Biblical references to the power of words, so let me provide a few examples:

Let the weak say; I AM strong! - Joel 3:10

My word that proceeds from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will accomplish what I please, and it will prosper where I send it. - Isaiah 55:11

Death and life are in the power of the tongue. - Proverbs 18:21

You have been trapped by the words of your lips, ensnared by the words of your mouth. - Proverbs 6:2

Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. - James 1:21

Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. - James 3:2

The tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. - James 3:5-6

When there are many words, wrongdoing is unavoidable, But one who restrains his lips is wise. - Proverbs 10:19

A lying tongue hates those it hurts, and a flattering mouth works ruin. - Proverbs 26:28

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. - Proverbs 18:21

The words of a gossip are like choice morsels, they go down to the inmost parts (heart and mind). - Proverbs 18:8

But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words, you will be condemned. - Matthew 12:36-37

Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. - 1 Peter 3:10

Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. - Proverbs 16:24

This message is of the utmost importance. I challenge you to study the subject thoroughly. With great power (the ability to speak), comes great responsibility. Use it wisely. Let there be Heaven on Earth!
