When was the last time you travelled somewhere? Not for work, or some urgent justifiable thing, but for your own personal satisfaction? My friend arrived today, we went to the airport to meet him because he was travelling to another country by plane. He travelled half for pleasure, half for health reasons, but I was glad he did the trip. We were waiting for him in Valencia, at the airport, there is where half of my day went.... hence the cover image for the video from the airport.

It was an interesting and joyful conversation in the car to our town, just as joyful is this sonatina written by Haydn. The topics of conversation changed and connected one to another, the words rolled like fast passages in this piano composition, and the road passed quickly. Although time is a relative thing, as we know, so two hours of driving can go fast or slow, it depends.

That driving seemed fast indeed, but somehow my day was a lot shorter, and I didn't do the usual things I wanted to. So this post is coming also so late, I wanted to publish it earlier, but yeah, the airport thing, the work, dinner, recording, writing and it is almost midnight. At least in my time zone. Anyway, music also can be a tool to travel, to other times maybe. In this case, to classicism with the first movement of the Sonatina in G Major. His author, Joseph Haydn, who was a friend of Mozart and tutor of Beethoven clearly knew how to compose larger structures out of very short, simple musical motifs, like in this piece I play here. His symphonies are also based on characteristical shorter motifs but mastered into big orchestral works, that are widely listened to nowadays too. And among us, pianist, we like to play his keyboard works. Fast passages and clear sound, that is what is required in his works. Could I help you travel a bit into the past with this piece, I don't know. But where to go next, to what place in this beautiful world? I will choose my destination and fly now, at least in my imagination.
