Detrimento del Oficio | Feliz Día, Colegas Periodistas

Hoy 27 de junio se celebra el Día del Periodista en Venezuela, país donde vivo. La fecha siempre permite recordarle al mundo, y en especial a quienes lo somos, la importante labor que ejercemos para la justicia los comunicadores titulados.

Desde niño yo estaba enamorado de la verdad. Me gustaba descubrirla.

Mi papá quería que yo estudiara Ingeniería Civil, como él, como su primogénito y como mi otro hermano mayor, pero justo cinco minutos antes de inscribirme en esa carrera, abogué a mi eterna rebeldía para iniciar mis estudios en Comunicación Social.

Today, June 27th is Journalist's Day in Venezuela, the country where I live. The date always reminds the world, and especially us who are journalists, of the important work that we, as qualified communicators, do for justice.

As a child I was in love with the truth. I liked to discover it.

My father wanted that I studied Civil Engineering, like him, like his firstborn and like my other older brother, but just five minutes before enrolling in that career, I pleaded my eternal rebelliousness to start my studies in Social Communication.

Siempre me ha gustado escribir, reflexionar y sorprender a las personas que siguen mi trabajo. Este escrito surgió justamente de muchos extractos de textos que a lo largo de más de 10 años y que fui subiendo a Facebook. Los uní y este es el resultado.

Se trata de cómo, en mi caso y en el de quienes no ejercemos la profesión, nos hemos encaprichado tanto por la verdad y ello nos ha costado deshacernos de ciertas cercanías.

I have always enjoyed writing, reflecting and surprising the people who follow my work. This text arose precisely from many excerpts of texts that I have been uploading to Facebook for more than 10 years. I put them together and this is the result.

It is about how, in my case and in the case of those who do not practice the profession, we have become so infatuated with the truth and this has cost us a great deal to get rid of certain closeness.
