Hive's top model reto: Pasarela (GLAM)

Hola Hivers. Ya llegamos al último reto de abril con la temática Glam en el Hive’s Top Model 2023.

Si de algo estaba segura, era que para este desafío quería usar algo más que lentejuelas. Para esta oportunidad, sentía que debía desfilar con algo que brillara por su significado y esencia. Quería una pieza que fuera el centro de atención pero que también llevara un mensaje poderoso. Por esa razón decidí usar el pañuelo en mi cabello, como un accesorio que aparte de ser elegante y glamoroso, refleja la belleza, cultura, resistencia e identidad de las mujeres afro.

Hello Hivers. We've arrived at the last Glam themed challenge of April at Hive's Top Model 2023.

If there was one thing I was sure of, it was that for this challenge I wanted to wear more than just sequins. For this opportunity, I felt I had to parade with something that would shine through in its meaning and essence. I wanted a piece that would be the center of attention but also carry a powerful message. For that reason I decided to wear the scarf in my hair, as an accessory that apart from being elegant and glamorous, reflects the beauty, culture, resistance and identity of Afro women.

La inspiración de todo el outfit: el pañuelo 👑

Los pañuelos o turbantes nunca fueron mis accesorios favoritos desde que empecé a dejar mis rizos ser. Creo que eso se debía a que usualmente cuando alguien se colocaba uno, la pregunta en tono medio burlón era si iba a vender empanadas o pescado en la playa o en el mercado. Por supuesto, no es que esto sea algo malo, es un trabajo arduo y digno, pero sinceramente no estaba dispuesta a escuchar ese tipo de comentarios más de los que ya escuchaba por mi cabello afro. Incluso al ponérmelos, me los veía con mala cara, y solo los dejaba guardados de nuevo en el fondo de mi armario.

Pero en este reto quería hacer algo diferente, y cuando salí hace días a varias tiendas para comprar algunos accesorios, vi la sección de pañuelos, de diferentes colores y tamaños, y fue que me convencí de que esta era la oportunidad perfecta de por fin colocarlo en mi melena y llevarlo con elegancia y orgullo en esta pasarela.

OUTFIT INSPO: THE HEAD WRAP👑

Head wraps or turbans were never my favorite accessories since I started to let my curls be. I think that was because usually when someone put one on, the question in a half mocking tone was if I was going to sell empanadas or fish on the beach or at the market. Of course, not that this is a bad thing, it's hard and dignified work, but I honestly wasn't willing to listen to those kinds of comments any more than I was already hearing about my afro hair. Even when I wore them, I would look at them with a bad face, and just put them back in the back of my closet.

But in this challenge I wanted to do something different, and when I went out a few days ago to several stores to buy some accessories, I saw the head wraps section, in different colors and sizes, and I was convinced that this was the perfect opportunity to finally put it in my hair and wear it with elegance and pride on this catwalk.

Me alegra saber que, a través de un simple accesorio, pueda expresar la conexión con mis raíces, y el trasfondo de lo que representa. Me llena de emoción que haya pasado de ser utilizado para ocultar nuestra esencia, y ahora sea un símbolo de resistencia y reivindicación de la belleza negra.

I am happy to know that, through a simple accessory, I can express the connection to my roots, and the background of what it represents. It fills me with emotion that it has gone from being used to hide our essence, and is now a symbol of resistance and vindication of black beauty.

Maquillaje y estilismo💄👗

Para seguir jugando con los colores de mi pañuelo, decidí utilizar tonos marrones y naranja en mi cuenca, y llenar mi párpado con un tono amarillo. Al ser sombras mate, decidí darle un toque de color más brillante al maquillaje, así que añadí dos tonos de azules metalizados en la parte inferior de mis ojos. Para seguir dejándole protagonismo al colorido de mi mirada, opté por un labial marrón, el cual combiné con uno en tono terracota mate, color que casi no uso en los labios, pero que en esta oportunidad era vital para resaltar el trabajo hecho en mis ojos.

Makeup and styling💄👗

To continue playing with the colors of my head wrap, I decided to use brown and orange tones on my eye socket, and fill my eyelid with a yellow shade. Being matte shadows, I decided to give a touch of brighter color to the makeup, so I added two shades of metallic blues on the lower part of my eyes. To continue giving prominence to the coloring of my eyes, I opted for a brown lipstick, which I combined with a matte terracotta shade, a color that I rarely use on my lips, but this time it was vital to highlight the work done on my eyes.

Mi sueño hubiese sido usar un pantalón con algunos toques de brillo y acampanado como lo visualicé desde un principio, pero al estar corta de presupuesto, decidí ponerme prendas que ya había en mi clóset, logrando justo lo que buscaba: drama y elegancia.

My dream would have been to wear a pair of pants with some touches of glitter and flared as I envisioned it from the beginning, but being short on budget, I decided to wear pieces that I had already in my closet, achieving what I was looking for: elegance and drama.

Este video fue grabado en un centro comercial que aún están construyendo en mi ciudad. Lo elegí porque amo sus espacios cubiertos de vidrio y espejos, siento que le dan un aire muy sofisticado al ambiente. Además, al no estar ocupado completamente, podía grabar sin tantas interrupciones y con menos ruido.

Location📍

This video was shot in a shopping mall that is still under construction in my city. I chose it because I love its spaces covered with glass and mirrors, I feel they give a very sophisticated air to the environment. Also, since it wasn't fully occupied, I could shoot without so many interruptions and with less noise.

REFLEXIONES FINALES 💭

Este último reto sin duda es uno de los más abrumadores y desafiantes. El día que grabé llegué tarde al sitio porque me duré mucho tiempo maquillándome. No lograba el resultado que quería y necesitaba que así fuera. Me pongo exigente.

Mi idea era grabar con mucha luz solar, y por tardarme tanto, llegamos al lugar a las 6:30 pm, contando solo con los últimos instantes del atardecer. Por eso las tomas del video hay unas de día y otras de noche. Cuando ya había quedado satisfecha con el material recopilado y ya estábamos caminando para irnos, me di cuenta de que todo había sido grabado de forma vertical. Estuve al borde de echarme a llorar. Ya eran las 8pm y hacía demasiada brisa y frío (16°), cosa que no pensé que iba a suceder, pero bueno, el otoño ya está llegando.

FINAL REFLECTIONS💭

This last challenge is undoubtedly one of the most overwhelming and challenging. The day I shot the shoot I was late to the site because I took so long to do my makeup. I didn't get the result I wanted and I needed it to be that way. I get picky.

My idea was to shoot with a lot of sunlight, and because it took me so long, we arrived at the site at 6:30 pm, counting only the last moments of sunset. That's why some of the shots in the video are taken during the day and others at night. When I was satisfied with the collected material and we were walking to leave, I realized that everything had been recorded vertically. I was on the verge of tears. It was already 8pm and it was too breezy and cold (16°), which I didn't think would happen, but hey, autumn is coming.

Mi hermana me calmó y me dijo que podíamos grabar de nuevo ya que aún seguíamos allí, así que eso hicimos. Gracias hermana, por no dejarme caer en esto, y tenerme tanta paciencia cada vez que me equivocaba entre tomas.

My sister calmed me down and told me we could shoot again since we were still there, so that's what we did. Thank you sister, for not letting me fall into this, and being so patient with me every time I messed up between takes.

Sin embargo, hubo tomas que no me salían igual que antes por el frío que hacía y ya estaba más que abrumada, así que por eso hice la respuesta del jurado en casa, y decidí recopilar ambos tipos de tomas en el video.

However, there were shots that didn't come out the same as before because of the cold weather and I was already more than overwhelmed, so I did the jury's response at home, and decided to compile both types of shots in the video.

Siento que este reto me llenó de frustraciones, pero también de satisfacciones ya que me gustó mucho como terminó viéndose mi look, y sobre todo, disfruté bastante editar este video que hoy les dejo por acá. Fueron 3 días que me tomó, pero quedé convencida de que a pesar de todo lo que estoy pasando en este momento, estar en este concurso me ha llenado de más confianza y conocimiento en ámbitos en donde antes dudaba que podía tener éxito.

I feel that this challenge filled me with frustrations, but also with satisfactions because I really liked how my look ended up looking, and above all, I enjoyed editing this video that I leave here today. It took me 3 days, but I was convinced that despite everything I'm going through right now, being in this contest has filled me with more confidence and knowledge in areas where before I doubted I could succeed.
