Many traditional investors want to invest in the growth of crypto, but without all the hassle of having to figure out an entirely new set of investing tools.

Ideally, they want to be able to buy assets through traditional brokers, using their existing accounts, that gives them exposure.

    Coinbase IPO
An infrastructure play. Profitability unaffected by bull markets or bear markets. Profitability is a function of how much volume they can capture.

So far Coinbase has captured retail volume by making the best user interface in the business and making it feel a lot like PayPal.
They can't rely on retail trading fees forever so they are already well on their way to expanding the service portfolio.

    Stock performance
The first piece of price data I have on TradingView is $240 per share at the open on 21st December 2020
We had a high of $643 and a 41% sell off on the 14th of April 2021. That’s obviously huge for a stock and is the kind of crypto volatility that traditional investors want to stay away from.

What I really don't like about stocks is that their volatility tends to be concentrated all around quarterly earnings reports, something we don’t have in crypto.

Bitcoin Mining companies going public and SPACS

Companies considering an IPO to look out for
    Kraken exchange
    Taxbit

    • March 2021 - Series A round of $100m
    • August 2021 - Series B round of another $130m
    • Now a $1.33b valuation
FTX raised $900 million at an $18 billion valuation
Open Sea raised $100 million at $1.5 billion valuation
Zed Run (digital horse racing) creator raised $20 million

If these 3 companies did an IPO I would put my personal money into Open Sea (not financial advice)

How do crypto company IPOs compare to IDOs?
Polkastarter has a couple of upcoming projects with targets of like $200k and $500k which is much more akin to a seed round

Perhaps that's the sweet spot for IDOs, to provide seed capital to thousands of startups in a crowd sources manner to sort out of the gems that are ready for bigger investment money

But then why wouldn’t a successful IDO seed round not go and do their series A as an IDO?

Securities regulations are an obstacle but if the goal of regulation is to protect consumers from harm, the seed round idea where a crowd puts in a very small amount each accomplishes this

More and more IDOs I see now are doing buy and sell limits on a per wallet basis to control pump and dumps (Like Nuke token)

Equities pay dividends by default, IDOs don't (but can), but that is where the Howey test is a danger zone.
