Greetings, dear friends of the Architecture+Design community! I am pleased to be here for the first time and share with all of you a series of posts about the architecture of my beloved city of Maracay, in the state of Aragua, Venezuela.

¡Saludos, estimados amigos de la comunidad Architecture+Design! Me complace estar aquí por primera vez y compartir con todos ustedes una serie de posts sobre la arquitectura de mi amada ciudad de Maracay, en el estado de Aragua, Venezuela.

Today I want to talk about a very special building for me: the Corpoindustria Headquarters Building, currently the headquarters of the Governor's Office of Aragua State. This building was completed in 1974 by the architect José Puig. It is special to me because my mother and grandmother worked there, which gave me the opportunity to walk its corridors on many occasions.

Hoy quiero hablar sobre una edificación muy especial para mí: el Edificio Sede Corpoindustria, actualmente la sede de la Gobernación del Estado Aragua. Este edificio fue terminado en 1974 por el arquitecto José Puig. Es especial para mí porque mi mamá y mi abuela trabajaron allí, lo que me brindó la oportunidad de recorrer sus pasillos en muchas ocasiones.

The building is located in the north of the city and is part of a complex that also includes buildings such as the Mayor's Office, the Palace of Justice and the Military Technical Academy.

El edificio se encuentra al norte de la ciudad y forma parte de un complejo en el que también se encuentran edificaciones como la sede de la Alcaldía, el Palacio de Justicia y la Academia Técnica Militar.

A feature that deeply calls my attention about the architectural design of this building is that it was inspired by the logo of Corpoindustria, which already existed at that time. This can be seen in the east and west facades of the building, which feature hexagonal plates that protect the building from solar incidence and make it worthy of being one of the most emblematic works of contemporary architecture in Maracay.

Una característica que llama profundamente mi atención sobre el diseño arquitectónico de este edificio es que se inspiró en el logotipo de Corpoindustria, que ya existía en ese momento. Esto se puede ver en las fachadas este y oeste del edificio, que presentan placas hexagonales que protegen la edificación de las incidencias solares y lo hacen merecedor de ser una de las obras de arquitectura contemporánea más emblemáticas de Maracay.

The creative and innovative style of the building, with asymmetrical facades and cantilevers on some floors, gives it a dynamic touch that can be appreciated in the shape of the structure. The building has a basement and a two-story ground floor.

The hexagonal slabs on the east and west sides are made of clean reinforced concrete, a somewhat brutalist style, and have incisions that create numerous triangles that reflect the shape of the Corpoindustria logo. To give you an idea, I share with you the logo of the corporation so that you can better appreciate the similarity.

El estilo creativo e innovador del edificio, con fachadas asimétricas y voladizos en algunos pisos, le da un toque dinámico que se puede apreciar en la forma de la estructura. El edificio cuenta con un sótano y una planta baja a dos alturas.

Las placas hexagonales que se encuentran en los lados este y oeste están hechas de concreto armado en obra limpia, un estilo un tanto brutalista, y cuentan con incisiones que crean numerosos triángulos que reflejan la forma del logotipo de Corpoindustria. Para que se hagan una idea, les comparto el logotipo de la corporación para que puedan apreciar mejor la similitud.

At present the building is not in the best possible condition, it has lost some of its luster and essence and the gardens that adorned it are not what they used to be, I hope that, at some point, the agencies in charge, can recover this beautiful structure and return it to its former splendor.

En la actualidad el edificio no se encuentra en el mejor estado posible, ha perdido parte de su brillo y esencia y los jardines que le adornaban no son lo que solían ser, espero que, en algún momento, los organismos encargados, puedan recuperar esta bella estructura y devolverle su esplendor de antes.
